Screen problem

Not a Problem

When I use Locus Map, the screen brightness gradually decreases—making the map hard to see—after about two minutes; this only happens with Locus Map.

With Samsung A26

Hi,

Locus Map has no setting that lowers screen brightness while the app is running — it can only keep your screen on, not dim it. What you're seeing is your Galaxy A26's own display behavior. Because a map stays as a mostly static, bright image on screen, your phone's automatic brightness gradually turns it down after a minute or two to save power. It would do the same in any full-screen map app; it's just most noticeable in Locus Map because you're staring at the map.

Here's how to stop it. Please try these in order:

  1. Turn off Adaptive brightness — this is the most likely fix.
Settings › Display › Adaptive brightness → off. Then set the brightness slider manually to a high level.
  2. Turn on Extra brightness (great for outdoor visibility).
Settings › Display › Extra brightness → on.
(Note: turning Adaptive brightness back on will switch Extra brightness off, so leave Adaptive brightness off.)
  3. Make sure Power saving mode is off.
Settings › Battery › Power saving → off.

For most people, step 1 alone solves it. If the screen still dims, also check:

  1. Settings › Accessibility › Vision enhancements › Extra dim → off
  2. Settings › Battery › Auto dim screen → off
  3. Settings › Display › Eye comfort shield → off
  4. Settings › Display › Screen timeout → set to 10 minutes

And in Locus Map, to keep the screen from turning off during your trip:
Menu › Settings › Controlling › Display › Always screen on → "Always" or "When GPS is on" (Premium feature).

One more tip: if the dimming mainly happens in direct sunlight or while charging, your phone may be lowering brightness to manage heat. Keeping it out of direct sun and letting it cool down helps in that case.

This is a well-known Samsung problem. It's already been discussed in both the German and English forums. As far as I know, there's a solution. But it's definitely not Locus's fault.

Hello Jacques,

The Forum post is https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7430.180 (Locus Map Gold is too dark).

I'm testing the solution of Wolfgang on April 12, 2026 (app Good Lock Samsung).
