The John Thorn maps are not shown in the download area. I had to replace my broken tablet and I can't replace the purchased maps.

Thank you, Mark

Hi Mark,

John Thorn maps are available in the Locus Store for downloading as offline bundles. You can easily get to them by inserting "John Thorn" into the search box:

John Thorn stopped updating the USGS maps and asked us to stop offering them for sale a few weeks ago. However, if you purchased the maps within 3-4 years ago, you can re-download them. Please use the same Locus account you used.

Thanks for the reply. How can I download them when they are not shown?

If you are logged in with the same Locus account you used when you downloaded them for the first time, they should be visible in your purchasing history, see your user profile. More info: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:locus_store:user_profile#purchase_history

I just discovered this issue after my app updated, all of the John Thorn Maps disappeared! I followed your instructions to go through the purchase history, I could pull up the map info screen, but it has no option to redownload since it thinks I already have it downloaded. I have a button to remove it, but I don't want to do that. When I try and load the map, the background just goes blank and I can see all of my GPS tracks and points displayed but on top of a white background that says "Loading..." continually, but it NEVER loads.

Now without John Thorn Maps, we basically only have one option in the USA for pertinent baths, and that would be the LoMaps. There are two other premium maps that are a third party map that costs substantial money to download. For that price, without knowing what the maps look like, that puts Locus Map app pricepoint into OnX app pricing territory, which is becoming the standard for off-road vehicle use. We use hours for dirt biking, mountain biking, and hiking. I very much appreciate how advanced the locus app is, but having John Thorn Maps as an option was invaluable. The online USGS maps are nice to use both the old scanned paper maps and the current maps, but they are no replacement for the John Thorn Maps. OpenTopoMaps are decent, but that's the extent of my map usage now aside from adding coding to the app to display Bing and Esri satellite maps, as well as the FSTopo maps reference from the US Forest Service server.

How can I get the previously purchased John Thorn Maps to actually display now since they apparently are loaded on my phone? At least they were previously before I updated the app.

Hi Charles, what storage did you use for the map directory before the update? Was it an external SD card?

Locus app internal storage main directory is selected as: Private Folder in 'Android/data'

and:

Set 'mapsOnline/' directory

App default

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/mapsOnline

Set 'maps/' directory

App default

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/maps

Set 'mapsVector/' directory

App default

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/mapsVector

Did you try removing the maps from the download history? If yes, did the "download" button reappear?

Yes, removed, download button appears, but I get the same results after reinstalling the map - a blank background with a grid abd the tiles words "Loading" dosplayed indefinitely.

So you re-download the map, tap it in the map manager, and only "loading" appears on the map screen instead of the map?

Yes, correct.

Hi,

the issue is caused by the theme for John Thorn USGS maps. These maps require a specific theme that defines their appearance. Unfortunately, the maps are no longer available for new users, and the original theme is outdated and not compatible with the latest app version.

To fix the problem, a customized theme is available for manual download:

  1. Open Locus Store
  2. Search for “John Thorn Maps US Style”
  3. Download the theme
  4. Return to the map screen, select your map, and change the theme to US Style

Instructions for switching map themes can be found here: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:maps_locusmaps?s#switching_map_themes

Regards
Petr Locus team
