Navigation and guidance cause app to crash

Solved

Hi,

Last night I updated Locus to the latest version (3.9.0) on my Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0. Unfortunately, now the app crashes when I either want to navigate or be guided along a gpx track:

I have track A and choose to split it into B and C. When I choose guidance along A it works but when I choose guidance or navigation along B the app crashes. This is reproducible on my device.

I would really appreciate a quick fix or a link to an old version. I am on a long term bike tour and use this feature on a daily basis as my only means of navigation.

I am also willing to help in bug fixing.

PS: Maybe this is related to the change in the scheme how new tracks are dated?!

PPS: I have to admit that I have a pending OTA update for my device. However, I intentionally haven't installed it yet since the last thing I need is major trouble to my device. (This has happened before to me and took me half a new of resetting my device. Not a good idea when I'm traveling.)

Thank you very much!

Good day Cegam,

sorry for a troubles! Weird it crash only on one track.

How to help solve this:

a) create a log right after this crash: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log

b) if you do not have any problem with it, send me whole your Locus/data/database directory and say me which track cause troubles and I'll try to simulate and fix it directly on my device (preferred method).

Quite the same for me. Some tracks (older and newer) force locus to crash. Some of the tracks are recorded with locus some generated by gpsies and such.

Tought about number of points, distance to location but this seem to be the reason. But the problem exist with guidance and navigation!

If needed I would attach the files.

Cheers

Hi!

Sorry for my late response. It seemed like most of my tracks caused Locus to crash when I wrote my initial post. But now it's like mfrk says: I cannot find any pattern and frankly, there have not been anymore crashes for two days... It's really weird. Unfortunately, I don't have the track anymore which caused the crash.

First of all: no worries, great support!

Yesterday I found out that first displaying the whole track on the map by zooming out, then starting guidance somehow prevents crashing, for what reason ever.

Today every track that didn't work yesterday is working perfectly today....very strage and I didn't even restart my smartphone.....

Hmm thanks guys. I'm sure you will understand, that without steps that I may reproduce on own device, it is really hard to fix this issue.

So I'll mark this issue as unsolvable for now. If you find anything that may help to simulate this problem repeatedly, please post it here and I'll try to fix it for sure!

Thanks

Hey Menion, of course! I'll get back to this thread as soon as I find anything reproducible. Great support :)

Hi Menion,

Where should I send my database to? I might have found something reproducible!

I also think I found issue that cause you crashes around two days ago :). It is probably connect to generating small map overviews. If you have reproducible issue, just try to change background map to for example some online map. If this will work.

Hello Menion,

I have exact the same Problem on a Samsung S4 Mini and it's not reproducible.

Some times it works for a lot of tracks and then the same tracks produce this error.

Guys, I'm on 90% sure, I found a reason why this happen. So check next version in Monday.

If it won't help, at start of week I'll ask for database to test (send it to locus@asamm.com) and I'll immediately fix it.

To Menion and other developers: i hope you found out the root of the Locus crash. What i have noticed when track has "world map" preview it caused crash of application (look at the attached file "crash locus.png" for better understanding. Last track). But when you switch somehow to "track previw" navigation works!!! (pls look at the attached file "work Locus.png. The same last track).

Hope this hint will help you as a workaround till developers will fix it in proper way.
