Good day Daddycork,

interesting question. I'm quickly searching for alternative solutions and it seems to be really complicated task.

Generally, such feature may be simply used by any external application. It is not necessary to have this directly in Locus. So I suggest to search on your own if there exists any solution that will works for you: https://www.google.cz/search?q=android+double+tap+wake+up+device .

From my point of view after 15 minutes searching, this task is impossible to do without any dirty hacks, which is not something I want to do. Thanks for understanding.

An extremely dangerous mode if not well implemented.

A standard total screen off also deactivates the touch screen.

There excists apps that dim the backlight to android allowed minimimum and by putting a (dark) grey transparant curtain over the screen dimming into a a very (too)low viewing brightness, but touch screen stays activated.

But what if dimmed to a (very dangerous) total black ? Where to tap to bring your phone back to live ? If there is no smart programmed ESCAPE possibility out of this embarasing situation you are in serious trouble.

Never seen on any app: Maybe a possibility ?

With one function button tap, brightness backlight to minimum (= not zero) level, at the same apply a "full screen black curtain tapable button",touchscreen stays activated and lower (not zero !) backlight screen power consumption .Double tapping the full screen black button function restores the brightness backlight to normal, deactivates the full screen black button, and restores the original screen with higher power consumption.

But as said....app developpers take care ! (your adress is known !)

Interesting opinion with almost black dim. Question is, if this will make a big difference in saved battery. And as you wrote ... I should also worry about correct implementation, as this may in the end, cause quite un-usable device.

i think there is no saving battery in this case, and it works with oled device (if not the black would not be black). I saw these application, but I find it useless. Maybe in Lollipop this ability will be possible natively, I have the Moto G which will be updated soon from kitkat to Lollipop, lets see ...

No Android 5, no knockcode hardware. Using A3.6 and A4.4:

Most of these apps I tested only use the 'curtain' technique, without lowering the back light to Android minimum, or no energy savings.

Worth the effort if using Locus ? Because I think incompatible with Locus auto screen on/off function, as I suppose a real screen off and non functional touchscreen. Or tapping touchscreen without any wake up reaction. No ?

so sad ...

the applis on the store seems to be inefficient or consume too much battery or memory. Some other cant uninstall, thats why I dont want to install one of these applis, but I will try to find something else ...

thanks for your reply

double tap would be nice alternative when the gesture wakeup doesn't work, but understandable from developer point of view not to do some dirty hack

daddycork did you try gesture wakeup instead? from my measurements it uses very small amount of battery

Yes I understand. You talk about the gesture wake up from locus ? I never understand how it works, and when I active this option it make bug the application.

It uses the Infra red proximity sensor on the phone to detect your waving hand. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me although Sony diagnostics and Sensor Test app both work fine. Try settings > DIsplay > Screen On/Off > Gesture. It doesn't use much battery in my testing.

doesnt work for me either. it makes the phone crazy !

Thats how Locus gesture control works here. (Samsung Ace and Ace2). Perfect ! No problem.

@daddycork - I installed an app which @0709 suggested would turn on screen after you double tap. It worked well on phone (no lock screen 5.0 Lollypop) but failed completely with tablet (4.4 KitKat). If all user apps are closed, airplane mode, I measure drop of 0.3%/hour battery. But with the double tap app installed I measure 5%/hour battery - so no use to me, power consumption is far too high. Back to pressing power button with cycle glove for me ;-(
