OruxMaps sqlite map format support (raster maps at original dpi)

Hi,

I am quite new user of Locus and now I spent some time trying to migrate my old raster maps for this nice piece of software. I used several apps as MOBAC, MAPC2MAPC, MapTiler, Ozi, few python scripts with sqlite interpreter etc and while doing this I realised biggest disadvantage of this format:

Thanks to the fact that zoom ratios are fixed, all imported maps from raster images needs to be rasampled to another dpi in order to show them in Locus.

This makes them worse to read, much harder to migrate or calibrate them in the terrain and to preserve same level of detail they require more storage space.

This is example of map I just use for testing of the workflow:

After migration of this map to Locus sqlite format, the nearest zoom levels are:

In this case this method reduce quality of map a lot. In case of this map, similar and newer map of the same place is already available as online map, but thats not true for a lot of others, mainly for maps of some exotic countries which weren`t even digitalised.

Implementation of OruxMaps should be easy as it use the same sqlite db structure as locus/rmaps, so there will be nothing much to add to app in order to support this. So I vote for this feature. :)

Honza ;)

I`m not saying I`ll do it :), I`m just little bit surprised that Orux use SQLite format. May you send me on locus(@)asamm.com some small map sample? Thanks

btw

locus(@)asamm.cz and locus(@)asamm.com are both valid?

yes they`re but .cz is forwarded to .com, so .cz is "deprecated"

You can find it in your inbox. :)

implemented! There will be anyway similar problem as with RMAP format. Some projections may not work, so if you`ll have map that will be wrongly calibrated in Locus, send me it

Still this offer exists?

I had one in OruxMaps created map (sqlite) and if I copy this to Locus, the zoom is scrambled up and the map is not working.

It is not important for me, this map, not at all, but if there is interest in finding compatibility I can send it.

Thank

frank

This is a little example of old part of town of Rossano with OSM HikeBike to zoom 17

E.g.:

Rossano is in south of Italy.

I guess no need to tell you that you need to rename the file to something.sqlite. ;)

hmm but these OruxMaps should remain as is. So not renamed to some other name and mainly with included xml file that specify it`s projection. Do you have this file? Without it, I cannot test this map

Oh! Didn`t know this.

No, this xml I don`t have anymore.

But this other map, the link to DropBox is the complete folder.

It is a IGM map (wms, which can be downloaded in OruxMaps.

It is a bit bigger.

Sorry.

Thank!

Oh! Sorry!

Don`t test it!

It works!

I just copied the whole folder to maps in locus and no worries the map works.

I was again thinking too complicated and silly.

Thank you for this great hint :)
