Option to share a recorded track eg via email or any other suitable app

Rainer Krienke shared this idea 8 years ago

It would be helpful if Locus had a way to share a track recorded with locus. This way you could send a friend a track you just recorded eg via email or any other app suitable for sharing a file without the need to start eg a filemanager to select and share the gpx track file. I think it would be very intuitive if there was an otion in the menu for a track to share it

Good day Rainer,

please try to export track directly in Locus to GPX format and in bottom settings choose option "Share exported data". This should help, let me know.

Hello,

thanks for your answer, but I cannot find what you described. I found a menu to share a track on facebook (in menu of track dialog) and I found a way to share my current position. But I want to share a recorded track by eg email to a friend. This should be easy as it is in quite any app by simply cklicking on the share button for a track and selecting the app I want to use for sharing.

Is this possible in locus? If yes, then I can't find it. Can you descibre more exactly how to do this? If its not yet possible then I think it would be helpful to add such a feature.

Hello,

"sharing a track should be easy" - I agree. Not all is so easy in Locus due to number of options, so this will require two more steps. In same menu you found "Share on facebook" is also option "Export" ( http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tracks:export ). Try it. In new screen, choose (it should be already selected) "GPX" as export format and at bottom select "Share exported data" and press "Export". You should then get offer of available apps to share this track, exactly what you want.

Let me know if above description helped.

Thank you for the description. It works as you described, but it not intuitive. Really intuitive would be to select an track and then have the "share"-Button (icon) for this track. This is the way sharing is realized in nearly all other apps. People (including myself) have become used to search for a share icon to share, not a checkbox with text "share" that is "hidden" in an export dialog. Locus could export a track by itself, transparently for the user if the (not yet existing) share button would be selected by a user.

Thanks a lot Rainer

I agree. It would be nice to have a "Share Track" option, that includes such choices as sending the track as a mail attachment, or sharing it on Google drive, etc, i.e. like the options for sharing any other type of document.

"Export" allows to create a local file, but then a file-manager must be used to locate and share the exported track. This is quite complicated.

I understand why share track should be done via intermediate file, but in case Share exported data is selected, Locus should not ask for file location, save track always to temporary location and after track is used, imported by target app, delete temporary track.

Good day guys,

since last (maybe last few) version of Locus, in bottom menu of track is option "Share (GPX file)". Please try it as it may cover this idea quite well. It export current track as GPX file into temporary folder and offer sharing of this track to suitable applications in your system. Which should offer email client, Google Drive and others ...

Thanks Menion for the update.

I found the Share menu entry and sharing worked as expected. I think this solution is fine now.

Thank you very much

Hello Bart,

nothing has changed regards this feature. Do you have any vector maps available for the are you try to share? LoMaps or OpenAndroMaps or any other. It always worked like this.
