Two optional fields for guidance alnog route do not work for waypoints

Qba shared this problem 7 years ago
Solved

In Guidanece Along a Route mode two fields wich appear on top do not show any info for waypoints (also named ones). They shows only informations for target point.

On attached screen they represent respectively "Distance to next waypoint" and "Time to next waypoint"

Good day Jakub,

do you think, it is possible for You, to describe me precise steps, I may follow to simulate exactly your issue? It should help me a lot. Thank you.

I am not sure but I can try to do my best.

1. Add new route & measure (make any route, at least 3 points; and the last point have to be further from Your location than any other waypoint + "setting distance to switch guidance to another trackpoint")

2. Pick this route and choose Guidance

3. At the top of screen (just below top menu) appear two additional fields (marked in my screenshot). Clicking them You can choose "* next waipoint" (name/distance/time)

In my case, when it is guiding to any point other than last/target one , the additional fields always show "Unknown".

Hello Qba,

thank you for a description. Quite complicated task, before main question here is "what you expect". Distance to next trackpoint is visible as big blue text next to your center cursor. Values here should display distance and time to next navigation point.

You anyway created a track with describe method and also enabled "Notify on every trackpoint" in advanced guidance settings, right? In such case, track do not have any navigation points and Locus display "unknown" values because of this. So it's a question here: display values to next trackpoint, display values to final place (target) or display this "unknown" label? Because we are here talking about "waypoints" (big points along the track), not a "trackpoints" (every single tiny point with a location only), I think best should be to display values to final point of a track, because it just make sense more then "unknown" value.

Please, to be sure that I understand You correctly, firstly let we set in order the definitions. Mainly what is difference between trackpoints and waypoints and why it is so important difference in our case.

And, I am not sure is it important and was not obvious for me (a little bit unconsciously I used correct name), but according to Locus docs, I am talking about routes not tracks (You sometimes use word track).

Let we stick to the above described and visualised on picture created simple route. There are 4 points, in other words - 3 legs. Excluding start and stop points there are only two points where we are changing our direction. Are they "big points along the track" = waypoints or "tiny points" = trackpoints?

I have notice this "problem" but I use to "go around it". An example; I have to pass 3 bridges with my sailboat. (The bridges have certain times when they open the bridge for sailingboats.) First of all I make 3 waypoints Bridge1, Bridge2 and Bridge3. Then I make my route by choicing the 3 waypoints. When I start guiding I can only see what time I will approach Bridge3. On my old Garmin45 GPS it was possible to se the current distance and approaching time to all bridges (waypoints), very useful!

So what I have to do with Locus is 3 different routes to help me calculate the right speed to the next bridge.

BUT it's very interesting to notice that the information about distance and estimated time (ETA) to the next waipoint is displayed in the Compass menu!! (see attached file) Soooo hopefully it's not so difficult to "link" that information to the guiding information instead of "unknown"

Hi Hans. Nice workaround.

But I am convinced that if we have point coordinates in Locus, we have all we need to show other interresting infos.

I am facing the same problem, my use case as following:

I import Routes from gpx File with consisting of named waypoints. When using guidance on the imported routes the "next waypoint name" always shows "Unknown". My expectation is that the name of the next Waypoint (the one we are guided to) is displayed.

Peter, may you please attach to me your GPX file, so I may use it for testing? Thank You.

Hi, GPX File attached

....attaching doesn't seem to work here ist the Link http://www.tuareg-rallye.com/gps.gpx

Hello Qba, Peter,

thanks to Peter's GPX file from previous post, I was able to simulate some problems with visible values in navigation/guidance feature. In this case, it was caused by track created from <rte> points. I've improved this system, so you will see in next Locus Map version next week.

In case, there will still be any problem, please share with me again some GPX files, I may use for tests. Thank You all!

There are still same information at Time/Distance to Target compared to Time/Distance to next waypoint. BUT the right time and distance to next waypoint can you find in Compass menu (as I wrote before) The name of the next waypoint is updated correctly.
