I would like a third option for the downloading:
-download only (the category is updated, but inactive)
-view after import (active category, all points shown on a zoomed map)
-activate after import (active category, map area not changed) this is the new option
I like this idea

is this really useful? I think this do not help a lot with work with points. If you want to see points, you check "Show on map ...", if you don`t and want import next points, you don`t enable it.
this should be useful only in case you want import more points, anyway in this rare case it`s quite simply to enable one or two category after import right?

Show on map, for example all mystery caches that I have solved in Finland, zooms out the map to show the whole Finland and centers a few hundred kilometers north from my usual location in southern Finland.
It takes many clicks to zoom in, and if there is no GPS-fix I have to find the location again.
I re-import all caches in certain categories, so that the ones I have found will not show up.
But let`s see how the voting goes. This is only a minor inconvenience :)

I`m worried there will not be a lot of votes even if many people find it useful. The fact that speak against is that I`m worried that it may complicate current system a lot. There will be needed some list with three options, maybe some description to every option like you wrote above .. hm ...
