Airplane mode fail on Galaxy S5

Colin Dawson shared this problem 7 years ago
Solved

I have just installed Locus Pro on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (a few days ago). The ability to navigate when in Airplane mode was the main factor that put Locus on my shortlist.

It does not work at all. When I start the app in Airplane mode, a big dialog displays "Locus performance is currently limited by your Android system battery optimization...."

I can report that my location mode is set to GPS Only. Other navigating apps work properly (Google - but using only cached maps, Here Drive - works 100%).

If I turn off Airplane mode, Locus works normally.

So this is a disaster. Locus is no use to me at all if it won't work in Airplane mode.

Good day Colin,

from your description is not clear, what is a main problem. Does Locus Map stops working at all?

Dialog you see does not depend on AirPlane mode, it should be visible no matter if this mode is enabled or not. Dialog notify about this possible problem, that happen on some devices: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6 , anyway feel free to ignore it in case, you have no problems with loosing GPS signal on your device.

Is there any other problem that prevents using Locus Map app while in "airplane mode"?

Hi Menion

Thank you for the information.

My S5 has two power saving modes but neither of them is active. It does not seem to have any way of customising the modes forbdifferent apps.

Good day Colin,

my wife has also S5 (non-rooted, original Rom), so I may test it there is will be any problem.

Anyway I would really like to help, but I'm still unsure what is THE problem. You wrote "It does not work at all.". What it exactly means? If you give me more precise description (maybe some screenshot may helps), it will be easier to help you.

Also please ignore dialog about battery optimization for now (or read more about it on mentioned web page).

Hi, I have checked again and I confess that it is mainly user error.

I was browsing the map of Vietnam, then touched the Recenter control. The coordinates moved to my current location in Australia, but the map was blank. Due to the previous error message I assumed the map was not available. I turned the device off and on again, but still no map.

I understand now that I must manually select the map. I was not expecting this, I have not used any other GPS/Nav app that works this way. They all load the appropriate map to match the location.

Is it a setting that I can change?

Good day Colin,

glad you find a reason for this issue.

About missing map - difference is that most of map/gps application use single map source and loading of map in different area is easy task. Locus offer huge number of options/maps, so it is sometimes more complicated.

In this case, what may are you using? You have downloaded LoMaps from Locus Store? If so, in current version is small issue with autoloading of vector maps, that will be fixed in next version. Anyway check if you have enabled settings > maps > offline maps > Map auto-load.

If you do not use LoMaps (Vector maps), then automatic loading may be more complicated and really depend on maps you use. Give me more information and I'll try to provide best possible response.

OK I understand the reason, but both Osmand and Here have discreet maps and they don't work like that :(

Yes I have LoMaps that I downloaded from G Play.

You are right, I did not enable that feature. I didn't realise there are two settings for maps auto-load. At least for the test case I described before, it does switch display the correct map when I tap Recentre. Perhasp this could be the default setting?

Thanks for clarifying that point.

Interesting that this settings was off, because "Map auto-load" should be enabled by default for "Personal maps" and also for "LoMaps & other vector maps".

Anyway hope all is clear now. If not, please feel free to write me, I'll gladly help!
