ANT+ connection does not establish automaticly

Hi all

first of all thank you for this great app, I like it very much.

Now my little problem. I use two ant+ devices a pulse meter and a cadence meter.

They work on my Sony xperia M4 and locus vers. 3.18.3. But when I start locus and also start track recording as recommended the connection to the devices don't establish automaticly. I have to open the ant+ manager wait a minute and close it again. Is this the normal behavior?

Good day Georg,

this is really interesting. Was this working in some previous versions of Locus or you just started to use it.


When you connect to certain ANT+ powered device, you may define it's name and set as "Preferred" device, so apps will then automatically connect to this device. Please try to install ANT+ Plugin Manager Launcher from Google Play. Start it and check content of "Saved devices". It is possible that you have incorrectly defined different device, so best is to remove them all and reconnect devices over Locus again. During last year, my HRM device change it's ID so it was recognized as different device (don't know why).

thank you for your advices. I followed them but there is no change. I still have to start the ant connection manually.

I does not use Locus very long so there was only one previous version and there was the same behaviour.

Do you have any further idea what I can test?

Hello Georg,

I read your starting post again ... and do you have enabled automatic connection to these devices in recording profile? Check settings of your recording profile > hardware devices and check here devices to which you wants to connect.

Then after start of recording, Locus should try to connect to these devices automatically.


I have also probably found small issue in re-connecting to these hardware devices in case, first attempt fail. No sure, but maybe it will be also connected to this problem.


So try to check if you have enabled automatic connecting to devices when you start your recording profile and also please wait till next week on next Locus version, if change I made helps.


If not and you will be still interested in using Locus, I should prepare for your special version that will print out some information to file, that may helps me solve this. Thank you and have a nice weekend.

Hello Menion,


thank you again for this hint. In the meantime I found this switch also and it works. It starts immediately to establish a connection. But it takes about 5 minutes until there is a stable connection. Until this point the connection comes and goes. I guess this is not a problem of Locus but rather a problem of Android and and the Sony mobil.

Good day Georg,

I usually suggest to check some different application, how it behave with certain hardware device. There is an testing application directly made to test ANT+ devices on Google Play, or some other sport tracking app. As I'm not expert in work with hardware devices, there is always possibility that I made something wrong. On second side, ANT+/BT connections are tested over months of usage, so it should work quite stable.


Let me know if you find something I may help with.

Hello Menion,

I used the ANT+ Demo app and the connection is established nearly immediately. I started Locus several times and got different results. This I will watch some days and then I will report again.

Good day Georg,

thanks for a tests. This means that most probably issue is on Locus side.


Please wait with more tests on next Locus Map version 3.18.5, which will be published most probably tomorrow. I made there few more changes, that may helps here.


If it won't work, I'll check it more precisely.

Hello Menion,

I tested the new version and it takes about one to two minutes until the connection is established.

So far so good. The strange thing is sometimes Locus randomly loose the connection after half an hour or after one hour riding.

Any idea?

Now it takes about 5 minutes till the connection is reestablished.

Good day Georg,

I'm really sorry, but for now I have no solution for You. ANT+ library in Locus is in it's latest version and ANT+ system worked for me quite well as I remember. I use now BT4 HR monitor, but I'll switch now to ANT+ based to test it more precisely. I'll let You know here when I find something useful.
