Android 7 Nougat is here

Android 7 is released and this gives a nice overview of what is new:

https://developer.android.com/about/versions/nougat/android-7.0.html

Maybe there are new API or features that Locus can benefit from...

I also expect a range of updates on apps that need to be fixed for Android7.

Is Locus also tested for Android 7 already? Is someone running this already with Locus?

Hi R5O,

thanks for sharing this link. I was watching coming 7 version and saw nothing too interesting for us here. Now when I read whole official info, I see nothing useful except troubles ... I speak about famous Doze mode, that will now work even if sensors report "movement". So expect another bunch of troubles connected to keeping GPS active when Locus is in background ... I'm looking forward to it ... :/

Using a Nexus 9 with Nougat (only at home of course) I cannot get offline maps activated. The auto-download of openandromaps e.g. successfully downloads a .zip to the mapsVector dir, but then nothing more happens.

Trying to browse through the filesystem in Locus (Add..) results in empty selection - no dirs, nothing. no error, just empty.

The files are located (dont know if this is new and they got relocated for Nougat) below:

/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/Locus

Probably new file system rules of Nougat that Locus not yet knows? (it sure should have all necessary rights in its "own" directory..)

---> well, strangely - when manually putting the extracted .map file into that folder, Locus finds it

FYI: I just flashed the first Nougat ROM that the XDA guys prepped for my old trusted Xperia S :)

That phone ran the latest Android 601 before that; in there I used TitaniumBackup to make a backup of all apps.

So after flashing the Nougat ROM, I restored the Locus Pro app from that backup. As I had not wiped

the SDCard, the locus dir with vector maps and all was still there. Locus just works fine in Nougat.

BBTW, also Geocaching4Locus was restored along and also works fine. Good stuff :)

@HyPhan if you setup custom directory on SD card for vector maps, it is probably needed to set it again after such big update of ROM of your device. In Android 7 are no changes in filesystem, so all should work as before.

@R5O.nl : thanks, nice to hear it.

Hi,

seems to me that with the new Scoped Directory Access everything will be fine with the external sd card access. Is there any experience with it?

Hello,

unfortunately this makes no difference. Problem is not with giving permission to access SD card, but with access databases ( more about it here ) and this new API makes no difference here.

I want to add that I have just flashed several devices with the latest Android Nougat 7.1.1 of December: in all of these, Locus just works fine. I have 2 Xperia S phones with ROMs of Android 7.1.1 via the XDA site. Yesterday I flashed a Nexus 7 (2012) with Android 7.1.1. In all these devices, Locus Pro runs as expected. On the Nexus7, I just DL-ed a vector map from OpenAndroMaps via Chrome and 'Install on Locus' and Locus starts and DLs the zip file, extracts it and activates it nicely. My Nexus 9 is still running the stock October ROM from Google. All my devices are of course rooted and so, but that does not matter that much here, I reckon. So basically, I cannot report any strange effect in Locus with all the recent ROMs (7.0 / 7.1 / 7.1.1) I flashed to my devices. If you want me to check on things or run a log or so, just say so.

Thanks R50!

I already have few reported issues with Android 7, for example here: help.locusmap.eu/topic/slow , but it still more looks like some device specific problem, then general issue with Android 7 ( as you also confirmed ). Time will show ...

Yesterday I upgraded the Nexus 9 I have to 7.1.1 of December. And also restored Locus Pro: all fine. Just 1 issue I will report on separately. I DL-ed a vector map and that went fine. Also not slow or so.
