Hi,

I use a Samsung S7.

I bought Locus pro, even twice, as I lost my first google account....

How can I download maps to SD Card, and use them again?

Locus does not seem to recognice the SD Card.

I copied existing maps to the SD-Card, but Locus can not use them.

Thank you for your help.

Browse upwards to uppermost, root (/) level. Then look for /Storage. In

there you should see the external SD. Depending on vendor, there are

different naming conventions.

Not a Locus fault, I have hands on 4 different devices from different vendors, Android 5.x and 6.x and all work nicely with Locus and ext SD maps. Yet different behavior from the past.

Hi,

Locus recognizes all available drives but regarding external SD card, it can write (download raster maps) only to the dedicated directory /Android/data/menion.android.locus/files. More info here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat.

As Michael has mentioned, there are different naming conventions by both vendors and OS versions - latest Androids do not name external drive as SD but with some code name, e.g. HGBSMDZUDTGVX.

Hi,

I'm using Samsung Galaxy s5 and can't find a way to access the external card as mentioned above. There are all sorts of folders there but nothing similar to external card. How can I move my maps there? They're eating most of my storage space which became an acute problem recently.

Hello Dmitry

- what android version is on your S5?

- which file explorer do you use?

on your report i suspect your device is on android 6, and you use the very simpel device file manager.

If so, please install e.g. "ES file manager" or "Total Commander file manager"

Dmitry,

when you find out more info about your drive/director structure and move your maps to your external drive, adding external maps to Locus is simple, as you can see here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external

Hi balloni, Michal,

Seems like installing the ES file manager solved the problem. I was able to move the files and get them back working in Locus. External storage got some breathing space. Thanks!

Hi Bruno,

if you want Locus to download SQlite maps then it's not possible directly to SD card - Android 4.4.2 and higher doesn't permit it (we wrote about it here http://www.locusmap.eu/does-locus-map-work-on-sd-card-or-not/ and here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat).

Another thing is if you have some already downloaded maps and want them display in Locus - you can move them to the external SD card and add them to Locus as external maps, see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external.

Hi Michal, thanks for the quick feedback, but when I try to add a pre downloaded map, and I follow the procedure to add external map, i'm not able to find the SD card, maybe some broken link?

Please check attached screen shoot from my tablet, on the top right no SD card option available.

Go through the previous comments. Android 6+ doesn't name external SD as a "sdcard" but with some coded name. Find "/storage" directory in your root structure, the external unit should be there.

Ok, thanks i will check it!

This is, where I am:

I managed to copy my downloaded Maps to the SD Card. I even managed that Locus can use these cards.

But now, Locus cannot download any new cards to that directory on the SD card (no writing permission).

So two questions, one answer would solve my problem :) :

- How permit Locus to write (download) to the SD-Card

- Can Locus use 2 folders for the maps (SD Card for Reading after having copied them, Phone for downloading new maps)

Thank you

Hi, as I wrote two months ago: regarding external SD card, Locus can write (download raster maps) only to the dedicated directory /Android/data/menion.android.locus/files. More info here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat.
