Altitude exaggeration for hill shading

Hi,

Is there a way to exaggerate the altitude effect on maps in Locus pro (I mean that shadowing effect) ? I am asking this because I think that it can be useful in "flat" areas. Other apps can do that.

Best regards

No, i think its hardcoded in Locus.

But, i've downloaded hillshade from OSM, and used it as "Map overlay". Opacity can be adjusted. When i use map shading, i prefer "slopes".

Try it :-)

Good day sl91,

may you please explain me what is meant by "exaggerate"? You wants to modify some parameters that affect style of shading?

This is currently possible and to be true, it is not even a planned. Is there really a benefit to see shadows in flat areas? Isn't combination of contour lines and dynamic elevation enough flexible, to give quickly good overview about situation on the screen?

Hi Menion,

Mathematically speaking, I mean a z cordinate amplification in order to display even small changes of this terrain cordinate.

Hello,

ah perfect, thanks. And yes, I'm not using directly amplification of Z coordinate anyway all parameters that influence hill shading are hard-coded directly in application. In case of interest, I may expose some to config file, but I would rather stick with hardcoded values to be true. If there will be more global agreement that shading is too bright/dark, I may modify it little bit directly in app.

Thank you Menion for the answer. I am quite sure that it is the kind of setting that will enhance the "attractiveness" of Locus Pro. am not sure that many people will ask for it...but they will be very happy if it is implemented one day.

Hi Guys,

+1

I absolutely agree with sl91. It would be great to have a small set of parameters exposed from the app to the config file!

Good Idea Sl91!

I also tripped over the problem.

I have made some screenshots which compare my work-a-round with osmand-sql-data as header to the built in shading with HGT files.

With this high-resolution hillshade/relief map overlay elevations changes will seem more exaggerated.
