Geocaches with corrected coordinated: show Original Coords on map too

Guest shared this idea 6 years ago
Completed

If having Geocaches with Corrected coordinates ("computed" flag set in Locus; mapicon has little red star in corner) just these Corrected coordinates (= of the Cache final) are shown in map. Please also show an icon at the postion of the "Original Coordinates" which could be read in the "Basic Info"-tab just above the Atrribuites.

Sometimes it's important to display the location of these Original coordinates at map too.

E.g. the first stage to answer of a (solved) Multi, of a reference/parking coordinate of a solved Mystery Cache.

Hi,

in another topic you mentioned that you are using GSAK for exporting geocaches to Locus.

Why do you not simple add a child waypoint in GSAK to that cache with the original coordinates of the geocache? Then you can find this information in the waypoint list of the geocache and on the map if you turn the display of that child waypoint on.

I am not shure but there might be a GSAK macro that add a child waypoint to the geocache with the original coordinates if GSAK detects corrected coordinates for that cache.

Hi,

another methode

- write the final coords on PC as Note and save it

- next update this cache inside locus

- locus create automaticly a WPT

- mark this cache "computed"

- display all waypoints

Hi guys, you are right both, of course there are several ways do manually add the original Waypoints within GSAK or Locus. Also updating Caches via GC4L-plugin is possible. But the point is that this has to be done manually, which is quite an (unnecessary, time consuming) effort for more than just a few caches.

It would be perfect if Locus could display the Original coords automatically (optionally to turn off its display, like it is possible with all kinds of other waypoints too). Just like Locus addon GC4L is doing already if cache is loaded ONLINE - not offline via GSAK-GPX.

For example, Cache https://coord.info/GC452J0

At the Original header coords people need to count steps of an unknown building (look at screenshot where cache was loaded using GC4L - ideal. Original coords ("Ursprüngliche Koordinaten" in German) as well as corrected coords (=cache icon with red dot) are displayed.

Or https://coord.info/GC2H10N where the Header coords are marking the parking lot.

Good day sonny,

understand your point and agree it may be usable (rarely). I think it is not necessary to do any additional options or some automatic loading tool etc.

I made a small improvements that I'm sure will be enough, just check image below:

Very good idea, i think that could work out in the field!

Maybe one tiny optimazion: Would it be possible to move the line "Orignal Coordinates" some positions up in the tab, I think more intuitive to search for them are near (below) the corrected Coordinates on the top of the Basic-Info tab.

photo

Not sure. Maybe more intuitive, on second side isn't better to see at top what is more important?

c.s.g, balloni55, what you think? I'm sure you all search for caches more then me ... thanks.

you're right, important Cacheinfos at first sight.

On the other side if Locus would put them just above or below to the coorected coords on very top, then no "importang first-sight space" is lost, cause the top area with the Corrected coordinates ins't displayed too when opening a Cache's waypoint. Just if people scroll up for cooordinates. In this case it's cool to have all "info regarding coordinates" together and not splitted across the tab.

i agree with sonny´s "optimation"

additional questions:

- "display on map" is only temporary or stored as last used

- are both displayed icons identically? or is the corrected one the new "solved icon" from GS ? c1f85beffedfd094e8ced32e70d802e6 or this one 1f8b28b186632ef8a549039510edc776

@menion: For me this feature in Locus is not neccessary at all. I have my original coordinates and a more detailed comment about the original coordinates stored in a child waypoint in GSAK for the corresponding geocaches. Therefore I have the information of original coordinates already in a way that is sufficient for me when I import that gpx file to Locus on tab "WEGPUNKTE"..

For me it is only importand that "display on map" can be disabled for all geocaches.

On the other hand displaying the original coordinates below the current coordinates makes sense for me.

And about the icon:. It would be nice, if this icon can be configured like the other icons described here in chapter Geocaching icons if the user do not like the default icon for the original coordinates.

Or (maybe better) use the original icon for that cache type and place the little puzzle symbol from ballonis post in the left upper corner. Not only mystery caches can have coorected coordinates. Therefore the ? icon does not probably match for the actual cache type .

Thanks for a feedback guys, appreciate it.

I agree it should be somewhere close to coordinates in the end. "Original coordinates" aren't usually visible and when they are, we may expect that user already know everything about cache and coordinates are more important then before.

Consider as improved.

Balloni to your questions. Displayed point is only temporary. I believe you wants to use it in that moment, so there is no need to store it permanently. And when you need, you may add it manually ;).

For "original location" point, I've choose quite simple blue icon with "down arrow" to make it different. I think it does not worth invest more time into it ;).

Thanks for a feedback.

I tested it in Betaversion. Cool, works ok!

Would it be possible to connect the new icon on the map also with a line to the Cacheicon, like the other waypoints? Thats a good optical help in cache-dense regions.

Hello sonny,

I was thinking about same ... to make this work, it will need to create this "original coordinates" point as an extra waypoint.

Hmm to make this work, maybe it should be easier instead of display some unknown point on the map, allows to create a new waypoint from these original coordinates? When you create a new waypoint, there is an option to choose (three dot menu) a "projection from ... ", so maybe rather create option here? What you think.

I think that's to complicated for the use out in the field.

Either Locus can automatically connect the point with a line to the Cacheicon or otherwise the Orig-Coords icon stays free on the map like now.

Maybe it is possible to add the Orig-coords icon as temporary extra waypoint? Just in the case the user is clicking onto "Display on map" within the Listing?

But if the automatic line connection doesn't work, it's no problem too. most important is that Icon is on the map :-)

Oki, thanks for a feedback. Then please consider this as a final solution for now. Something like temporary attached waypoint etc. to force Locus Map to connect both points is quite complicated for now. Thanks for understanding.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question but it is to do with corrected coordinates. I used to download PQs from geocaching.com into Locus and a little red blob appeared to show the coords were corrected. I now don't get any indication and it is very difficult to differentiate between caches with or without corrected coordinates. Has this been changed?

As far as I know, only caches refreshing via the API contains info about original and corrected coordinates.

Pocketqueries only one pair of coordinates wheter the original for unsolved mysteries or the corrected for solved mysteries when doing the correction on geocaching.com. But there is no flag in the gpx file if the coordinates are the original or the corrected ones.

Look also here and here.

I am waiting for this feature from groundspeak for several years now. But because I am using GSAK for creating the gpx files for Locus, Locus recognized solved mysteries without any problems.
