Top-right panel: Different number of icons for portrait-landscape

Ingo Rau shared this idea 9 years ago

This is pretty straightforward:

The setting of "Max amount of buttons in top panel" is same for portrait and landscape. Before 3.7.0, there was no other way to handle this easily - but now, with the automatic flowing of icons from top to right panel, it would really make sense to have a separate amount for portrait and landscape mode.

I have the same concern. Can we have different profile/mode of function panels for portrait and landscape?

Also, I think it's best to allow the bottom panel as customizable also to save space. For example, I'm using hardware buttons for zoom-in and out which makes the same function on bottom panel redundant and consumes more space than other bottombpanels.

Hi Menion!

Could you please have a look at this (again). I know, I posted it as an idea, but the more I use rotation, the more I think it's a bug. It just makes no sense that you have to decide on a number of top panel buttons for both portrait and landscape. If you choose for portrait, you'll have an unnecessary long info field and a right-side bar that you have to scroll - and the other way round.

I know, the current GUI doesn't easily support it, but wouldn't it be possible to add a setting "In landscape, show more buttons in top panel: [-] [ xx ] [+]"?

Hello, sorry, it's really not a bug :).

It is currently not implemented, not just because of five votes, but also because I personally do not think, it's so useful. Hmmm, probably because I do not use landscape at all. Anyway happy voting ...

OK, yeah, I did that on purpose ;)

I just wanted to share how I think it could be easily implemented with the current UI, hoping that you might say "actually, that's only a few lines of code, I think I can put in 15min for that". Worth a try ;)

Afaik, 3.25 will add the ability to define different sets of buttons within presets. While this is not the same as this idea, it will probably make the whole thing moot in most cases, as you can define a preset for landscape viewing with different button number/selection. If this works as I imagine, I think this idea can be "archived" ;)

Good day Ingo,

good point, thank you for information. I'm glad that "Presets" are solution not just on a single problem :).

Just checked out 3.25, works as I expected, very nice. For me, this is obsolete now.
