Mapsforge vector maps sea coastline squared

Qba shared this problem 6 years ago
Not a Problem

Is it common problem with vector maps (at least from mapsforge) that coastlline from the water side is not smooth but built from quit big steps (I think steps of single map tile size)? That is problem with sea only - not lakes nor rivers...

Hi,

could I ask you for screenshot of any problematic area, please. What is the source of problematic map?

Thank you

Hi,

mapsforge maps don'c contain the coastline and see areas. However there there are some workarounds how to add sea arres into maps. Honestly I'm not sure how is solved this problem by in default mapsforge maps. Could I ask you:

- do you use original Mapsforge theme?

- does change of the zoom (zoom-in) influence the problematic border rectangles?

Thank you

Petr

- I use Classic Map theme (kind of default in Locus but I am not sure the origin)

- changing zoom do not resolve the problem but it change the sea coverage. Generaly speaking - it looks like sea is blue only on map tiles which a) do not contain any other area than sea, b) are not further than... from the land (mostly first sea tile only)

Hi,

i tested the Azeores map downloaded from mapsforge server http://download.mapsforge.org/maps/ The sea is displayed correctly with Locus internal themes.

Please try to download new map or use different theme. It's complicated to say where the problem is, because I don't know how map was generated. (as I wrote there are several workaround how to prepare map with the sea areas.)

Thank you

Petr

Hi Petr,

indeed, this map with 4 internal Locus themes does work.

What are the workarounds You mentioned?

Hi,

mentioned workaround are needed during generation. Locus and OAM maps use suggestion mentioned at https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/blob/master/docs/Getting-Started-Map-Writer.md#landsea-feature-encoding

Basically it's vital to use the theme that is distributed with the map. I mean to use internal themes for LoMaps, Elevete themes for OAM maps. On the other hand the maps are almost the same and it's possible to use different themes for different maps. But it may cause the problems with some special elements.
