It is Maidenhead Locator system. (Radio amateur)
Change: Settings ->Language & Units -> Coordinate type -> tap and Select Lat/Lon (WGS)

No, it isn't default. Are you sure that you did't change it? Who knows maybe some issue could happen during update but it seems improbable to me. :)
