Error in displaying or update of a geocache

Loiblinger shared this problem 11 years ago
Not a Problem

When I want to display the listing of a special geocache then Locus crashes.

And when I update this geocache with Geocaching4Locus both Apps are hanging.

I cannot do anything else in Locus - only start the task manager and kill Locus.

I`m not sure if Locus has the problem or if Geocache4Locus has the problem.

After a lot of tests I identified the geocache that causes this problem and in the PocketQuery of this cache I found embedded images...

In Tag: {groundspeak:short_description html="True"}

src=/9j/4TAwRXhpZgAASUkqA...

Maybe the big data in the listing causes the crash in Locus and the hang in the update...

Can someone take a look at it?!...

Hello,

I already received email with exactly same problem. Solution was that user wrote to cache owner and he removed this embedded image. I currently have no idea how to solve this because it crash when parse handle it, not when Locus try to load this image. So solution should be scan GPX file before import and remove this image from it. Anyway from my point of view, best should be really remove it on GroundSpeak server. This will solve this problem for all programs at once, not just for Locus

Hi,

I scanned my PocketQueries (ca. 4000 caches) and found 13 embedded images :-(

OK for now it is the easiest way to inform the cache owner that he should update the cache description. Hopefully he will update the description?!

But nobody knows who else is using embedded images in future. And then we have to identify the cache again and inform the owner again...

Till groundspeak doesn`t forbid embedded images it is always possible that they use it.

And what about Addon Geocaching4Locus?

Does this Addon identifies these embedded images? This Addon overwrites the cache so the PocketQueries are not involved.

thanx and br

Embedded images are no longer allowed/accepted by Groundspeak (as of last week). But they can/will not remove existing embedded images; just ask us to contact cache owners.

Ok - that was new for me ;-)

I searched for src="data:image/ string in my pocketqueries and found it in following caches. It was not 13 caches because some are using it 2x/3x.

Do you contact the owners or should this be done by groundspeak?

I don`t know how to proceed and Groundspeak`s advice is not very clear:

That`s a bigger list than we are prepared to manually deal with. World-wide I`m sure there are many more. Please report these to the cache owners themselves and, if that does not get a response, your local reviewer. If you run into caches that are causing breakage of a browser or GPS receiver, please email the problematic cache to contact@geocaching.com.

Maybe the first thing is to contact the owner, when you notice such a listing.

I have written a mail to the owners. Hopefully they react on my mail because it is not a official groundspeak mail.
