Color dialog: Black/White/Gray as Basic Colors; hex input

Wouldn't it be sensible (and easy) to add Black, White and several Grays (e.g. 20%/40%/50%/60%/80%) to the list of basic colors in the color selection dialog? Now it's always a hassle using the advanced selection (and almost impossible to get identical gray values).

Speaking of identical values: It would also be very helpful to have ahex input field (including alpha value) on the Advanced tab. Right now, you cannot really reproduce manually selected colors.

Good day Ingo,

thanks for a test. Issue with 4-letters in case of 100% opacity fixed.

Extra field for alpha does not fit well UI and also two options how to set alpha are little bit confusing I think. I've at least added one small secret option ... you may now insert 8-letters color code into HEX value in format ARGB, so you may set alpha here precisely ;).

Good day Ingo,

this is something I wanted to do quite a long time ago. Even this is probably not too often usable feature, I believe it find it's usage ... at least I hope.

In next version:

- option in first tab will be limited to 22 colors that were analyzed as "most contrast and easily visible even to people with color visibility problems ( source of information in really interesting PDF file here ).

- added new third tab with option to set color by HEX/RGB or HSV value

Enjoy it.

Great, thx! Always nice to have an "idea" you were also thinking about ;)

Also, interesting stuff about colors. Didn't read through the whole doc, but sounds like some people really thought about this stuff...

Hi Menion!

Just checked it out in 3.25: Very nice, but one hiccup: When the opaqueness level is 100%, the Hex value is initially always displayed with 4 characters, not 6. For any other opaqueness, it works well. Seems to be some wrong "simplification" of the value.

And if I may wish for one more thing: Could you add the alpha value to the hex input, too? That would make it easier to copy-and-paste exact colors without having to fiddle with the opaqueness slider...

Thx, that's all I need :) I use mostly solid colors anyway, so I just put an FF in front to override your default of 75% (or whatever it is) - easy!

Hi Menion

I recently used that ARGB "hidden feature" - strange thing: works fine, unless you use FF for the alpha channel. Then the opacity doesn't change at all. Even something like FE999999 works, but not FF999999.
