General World Map selection - folders missing

Michael Bechtold shared this problem 6 years ago
Solved

Hello Menion,

on my LG G5 everything is fine - the raster maps from Locus/maps as well as my "World" folder on etxernal SD are offered, besides the tons of online maps

HOWEVER, on the old Note 3, only the /maps folder content is offered, but not the stuff from the external SD card. Those extSD based maps ARE available for Quick Masp Switch e.g.

Weird.

Double checking that on both devices right now brings back another topic: the tree of settings is enormous - and I appreciate and love the power of Locus. The associated criticism, however, could be massively reduced and usability improved, if ANY setting were accessible by a (full text) search. You would not have to remember where the heck a setting is hiding, but just type a few letters. "voi" for example would offer you the one, two or three occurences of "voice" related settings. That would not requirea change in data structures of your settings, only adding a second "access" to the function call that sets the resp. value.

TXs and cheers

Michael

Good day Michael,

hmm may I understand, that on Note 3, certain "world map" visible in map manager is not offered by Locus Map in settings > maps > offline > world vector map, where that same map on LG is correctly offered? Firstly suggest to check if it is really same map (at least based on file size) and if this map correctly works when selected in map manager.

About settings in app, this is interesting and currently quite actual topic.

  1. Michal with Peter during last few weeks made some tests on real users and they are currently finishing improved structure of settings (same settings, but changes in organization).
  2. Changes I wrote about for example on forum, are also related to system of settings I use in app. It will be quite a long way (half of year maybe), but in the end a) it will be easier for me to work with it and mainly b) I'll be able to create search over settings! So it is definitely planned.

Have a nice weekend,

Cool news re. settings search, Menion! I'll be patient - against my nature 😊

The maps I checked multiple times. They are the same on both devices, from the same PC source, and in normal map selection and Quick Select they work properly on the Note 3, too.

The Note 3 is in Android 5, meanwhile rooted and the SD card fully accessible after the patch in this /system config file.

Kind regards and have a nice weekend

Quite interesting. May I ask for your map to test? I'll try to upload it to some devices with a hope, same issue happen to me as well, thank you!

I am away from the system, but you can find the maps via the drop box links in the world map discussion thread. It is not restricted to a single map. All raster maps on the external SD are not presented. They are MBTiles and also sqlitedb.

Ah old unsolved problem., sorry Michael.

Is there any news on your side? To be true, I did not tested this problem since our previous communication. So in case, you still have a problem with using certain maps as a "world map", that logically should be working, I'll have to prepare for you special version that will print us the real reason why some maps are not offered. Thanks

I just checked again and maps not in the selection still - BUT I think there was some "fine print". Do those maps have to have a min zoom level of 2 or so ? The ones I had on the external SD started at ZL 5 ...

Ah, here we are. This is correct, zoom level 2+ is the necessary condition.

Anyway, in your second post, you wrote that exactly same map works on the different device. Same app version, same map and one is possible to use it as the world map and not on second? This should not be possible!

Just did a clean test on both devices - works as it should.

Topic closed, sorry for the hassle.

Have a nice weekend!
