Add offline routing with brouter

Michael shared this idea 11 years ago
Completed

http://h2096617.stratoserver.net/brou... seems to be an excellent solution for offline routing, it uses precompiled navigation data based on openstreetmap and can route completely offline.

It seems that with routing profiles one can configure the routing algorithm to his own preferences.

Please add brouter as possible routing engine or create an addon that can interface with this. Maybe the original author of brouter can help you

Michael, on first sight it looks really promising.

I created topic on authors support site (https://groups.google.com/forum/?from...), so we`ll see what he`ll think about this idea :)

The autor does not provide a special addon for Locus but it already works:

- create starting and ending waypoint in Locus named "from" and "to"

- start brouter

- open the computed route from MapItems

When you add shorcut to BRouter to the right Locus menu it is quite comfortable to use.

What I really appreciato on BRouter is its possibility to change its parametres of the route to be computed (e.g. penalize hills, do not allow stairs, prefer cycloroutes, avoid highways...)

Another option would be the graphopper software: https://github.com/graphhopper

What do you think?

Menion, any news here regarding integration of Graphhopper?

Inbetween brouter integrated a service interface which can be used by another app like Locus.

Menion, will this be working with Locus? If not, please give feedback to Arndt.

In general brouter gives very good results as everyone can try with a "manual mode" which is described/discussed here:

I was just discuss this with author of Graphhopper. He`s still working hard on this project as you may see on his pages http://graphhopper.com/ .

Graphhopper library is anyway not yet ready and also Peter (author) wants to sell this as add-on for a small fee. But I do not received response on my last email so I don`t know what exactly he plan. So for now, no serious news ...

Idea implemented. You may now (since versions from end 2013) choose BRouter as another source for track compute

FYI: A rather good howto for Locus + BRouter is http://www.com-magazin.de/praxis/android/offline-routing-rad-wandertouren-465807.html (if you don't understand German, use Google Translate or the like). It also covers from-via-avoid-target routings.

Am fighting with Brouter. Seems to work but it is NOT easy to configure or to run. I did read the instructions in German (I speak German) but it's a shame that Brouter isn't integrated into Locus right from the start. If brouter can come up with offline route planning I am sure Locus can!
