Import cache - automatic SRTM HGT elevation (default mark)

I suggest that the height data be downloaded automatically when importing caches. Or to be set to the default setting. I do not want to do this a thousand times over and over again.

what do you need for a cache height. You are looking for him with the coordinates.

Good evening Condor,

Do you have HGT files downloaded for an area where are imported points/caches placed? Because I'm checking app source code and it looks to me, that elevation should be filled always when data are available. The checkbox "Přidat nadmořskou výšku" (Fill elevation) should rewrite elevation data of caches even if exists, by data from HGT files. That's why this setting is by default always disabled ... to prevent accidental overwrite of elevation values of points.

But on the second screenshot is visible that point does not have elevation. Is this because you miss HGT file for this area?

Even you nice evening Menion.

HGT files, of course, have. (N49E021.hgt)

As you say, Locus never worked. For several years I have done this work in every cache manually!

+edit:

I look at the height data and ... The height when downloading cache is different then requested new. Difference 2-5m. Q: What data does Locus use when downloading? What about editing and new height? Here I assume hgt offline data or online data?

Interesting ...

Please try

  • menu > settings > misc (různé) > Check duplicates ... disable both options
  • enable map shading to check, if elevation data for area are available
  • import any cache data, where should not be elevation data in GPX file
  • check elevation in imported caches

For me, it works correctly. So caches has correctly set elevation during import in case, cache has no elevation data in GPX file!

And source: there is no more online source for online data. Everything what Locus Map do with elevation is offline only.

Wait I thought we talk about "when importing cache" also based on your screenshot! In this case, elevation values should be filed (like when importing PQ files).

And different elevation values during edit: do not know. Maybe really old cache with values computed by different method (few years back), maybe cache itself already have elevation value so it is different source.

I mean in both ways. I made a video for one of them. Now I've tried again through the import and found that version 3.30.3 is already downloading the height at the moment of import! And whether it's labeled or not. Then what is the choice? Maybe it has worked long ago, and I have been labeled manually for a few years unnecessarily.

But in the way of the video it does not work as you see and it is necessary to manually download.

O. T. sorry :-)

Years ago, my job (among other things) was optimization and an automated solution to recurring activities. An action that needs to be repeated more than 5 times manually is appropriate to automate. Therefore, it traumatizes me to perform 1000x the same manually. And it is either in Locus or any activity. All the more if one is a computer activity (mobile) that was primarily developed just to get rid of repetitive activities.

Exactly this identical case I deal with in the topic "Magic one click"

Another such typical thing in Locus is to manually download more than 5 cache logs. This bulk download option is not available even when updating caches, download more logs, or GC offinizer.

Did he ever try to download logs for example for just 100 caches for offline use? Sometimes you try it ;-)

Hello Condor,

Locus Map downloads HGT data automatically only in one case: if you download LoMaps from Store.

Anyway this import system was changed because of this some time ago, only text does not reflect exactly what happen there.

So simply, if you import data over "import" function

  • checkbox "Fill elevation" disabled = if HGT file is available, elevation will be computed to points, that are missing this elevation
  • checkbox "Fill elevation" enabled = if HGT file is available, elevation will be computed always (if point has defined elevation, it will be overwrote)

So correct should be to rename this checkbox to something like "Compute and overwrite elevations"

Better?

And yes, in case of live map, this is not working. Only import where is visible this "Import dialog", works currently that way.

Menion

Thanks for explaining how this function works.

So I can get rid of one click.

In the future, others may be ;-)

Give it a try, but as I test it now, it really works.

I'll also look, what I may do with a "live map elevation".

And we may probably close this topic.

OK ;-) You can close it here.

It's enough for me to think about what I wrote here :-)

@menion, Thx for explanation! Always ticked the box and wanted it to stay ticked :-)

A renaming would help!
