Enable heading line and direction of view without gps, based on compass.

Hello,

actually the heading line and the direction of view display is only working when Locus has a gps fix. That ́s bad in situations, when you know where you are but you have no gps signal.

Locus could be used as compass with "manual map view" if heading line (and direction of view) would be enabled based on the compass.

Thanks

Thomas

Finally had time to test this. I agree with your observations.

I set a guiding target after starting Locus with GPS switched off.

No heading line, only my also actived red course line.

Offcourse it works when I activate GPS showing the thick yellow heading line and now comes the funny part: it keeps on working after I switch off GPS.

So only problem is: no heading line on Locus start without GPS.

Hi,

that ́s different to my observation. The heading line is only there when Locus has gps fix. Loosing the fix or the connection to the receiver (i ́m using an external Bluetooth receiver) immediately stops the heading line as well.

My system Defy (not +) and internal GPS.

Under Settings/Sensors do you have Hardware compas and Auto change enabled (the two top ones)?

Yes, both are enabled. The speed value for the change is 1 m/s.

Likewise. I think Menion needs to "flip a switch in the program" allowing the heading line to be shown when starting up Locus with only the magnetic compass enabled.

Maybe change this topic into "problem" to get some attention? :)

in this case, it`s not about needed attention. I`m watching this topic since begin, but because of only you two (by number of two votes) discuss about this, I wasn`t give a big attention to it.

I personally still don`t see big usage in using some orientation stuff without valid GPS location, but I`ll think about it

/blush/ On second thoughts I think it is even better to never show a heading line on a map background when there is no GPS fix.

Because the map view suggests your position which is not true without GPS and so misleading, especially in combination with a heading line.

I may know my posititon perfectly without positioning system and just move map enter to this point.

In addition there are other location sources like Wifi and I can use the center map to position button.

And hence I`d like to be able to use the mentioned lines.

+1 for this idea.

Hmm, this is quite a nice example of feature, where everyone have completely different opinion. I personally prefer NOT to display some rotations when you don`t know where you`re. So that`s how it remain ...

+1 from me, map_items_show_headings_also_without_gps=1 is working great!

I also needed this function, and I think there is a lot of people would use this.

This is an example for the situation:

I reach a mountain hut, where I can confirm my position (by the hut's name), and if I know that I have to head to West from that hut, I don't want to waste battery juice to get GPS fix.

I hope it will have a checkbox in the future in the settings menu.

Thanks a lot!
