Locus Map performance is currently limited by your Android system battery optimization

This is not true I have made sure I turned off battery optimisation for Brouter, Locus and Locus addon for Pebble smartwatch yet this notification keeps coming up and is very annoying. I have even tried turned off optimisation for the whole phone only to find this notification still appears.

Either this is a bug or the developers have decided to set this as a constant reminder regardless. Either way it is really annoying.

Good day Fergus,

this is really interesting as Locus Map use really standard mechanism to check this settings.

I'm not sure if Android on your device looks same as on mine, but please try to check this place in your system settings:

  1. Android settings > Battery > Battery usage > top menu More > Optimise battery usage > top selector and "All apps".

It may be different settings as Samsung has also other "optimizations" directly in Battery settings (don't ask me why).

Also you wrote that dialog is annoying. But there should be option to permanently disable this notification by checking "Don't ask" option. It do not work for you?

You are right, that certainly was well hidden. How is anyone logically going to look for battery optimisations there! I would never have found this without your help, so many thanks ;)

Yes I know about the dialog. But I was thinking this should not be appearing and could be a problem and wanted to get to the bottom of it before just permanently dismissing it.

Perfect. Yes, it is very well hidden.

Google and other companies currently have some kind of "race", who will offer more and better hidden optimization techniques that in most cases only complicate life to users of similar apps like Locus Map.

Have a nice day without annoying dialog ;).

Yes you are right, optimisations can create more problems than they solve. I would prefer a bigger phone due to a bigger battery. Wish manufacturers were brave enough to do this.

Heh, sometimes it is a blind way. Bigger phone = higher resolution = bigger battery, but bigger consumption.

My personal experience during testing of many phones always ended with phone + powerbank as only usable solution. I have three years (maybe more now) old 10k big powerbank which always give me two more days and no battery optimizations beat it. I wanted just say, be careful as battery size is not always winning parameter.

Are you able to get a fast charge with a powerbank connected?

It depend on power output of every Powerbank. I've just output 1A which is not a lot. Modern adapters are usually 2A so they are a lot faster then my older powerbank, but your device have to support it.

Best to read some interesting articles like this: http://showyourflipside.com/blog/portable_power_output/ as I'm not expert in this area. Good luck.

might be time to get a 2A powerbank :)

Original Samsung power bank has fast charge mode for Samsung phone. Works very well

I still loose GPS signal after some inactive time and still have the notification system battery optimization enabled. I use Samsung S7 with Android 7. I turned power saving mode off. App power monitor is off. I even changed setting performance mode to high performance. What else can I do?

Hello Ivo, I have also S7 device and key is system settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Battery usage > top three dot menu > Optimise battery usage > Advanced settings > Apps not optimized change to "All apps" and select Locus Map. Uf more hidden it can't be ...

Good morning! Great that works. I would have never find it.

Don't tell me about it!

There is an option how to programmatically disable this optimization. We once created dialog with question"Disable optimizations? yes/no" and few days later, Locus was removed from Google Play by Google because "such type of application cannot use this method" ... eh. ( a day later we created update and it was added back ). Crazy ...

It worked for me great but after the update to Android 8 I get again tracks with lost GPS signal. I have now Note 8.

---

I can't find the setting anymore in android 8.

---

Sorry I found it again and Locus is still disabled but I still have breaks in track recordings. What can be the reason?

Good day ivo,

sorry to hear about some new troubles with GPS system. Never ending story with Android updates ... :/

Try please enable settings > GPS & location > Google Services assisted location, if this helps.

I still get lost GPS signal also after Google Services assisted location turning on.

Good day ivo,

during which activity this happen? Also during track recording?

When this happen only during navigation, please try to enable "Locus Map as service" in Locus settings > misc.

I noticed it only while track recording. Locus is already set as service.

Oki thanks ivo,

so we have here now two problematic devices, Note 8 and Huawei P20, both with Android 8 and we not yet know any useful solution ... nice :/

Does enabling "Google Services assisted location" offers my location to Google? I've purposely set my device to only use GPS and _not_ GPS, WLAN, WLAN & mobile Services?

I do not have one of affected devices, but out of interest...

None, nothing like this. "Google Services assisted location" only change, how Locus Map obtain location from system, but definitely not change any possible settings you set for sharing your location with Google itself.

It seems that the app Memory locker helps. So far no interrupted tracks anymore.
