Is it possible to include wikimapia.org (hybrid mode) into "providers.xml" file?

It will be nice download wikimapia tiles and use them as overlay. Now I prepare wikimapia tiles in sqlite format using my PC.

Hello berkley,

I had tried using this manual before writing this post :)

Wikimapia has complicated method of calculating some parts in URL.

There are division and multiplication of {X} and {Y} coordinates and Locus does not parse it correctly, AFAIK.

are you sure? Their url looks quite normal

http://i1.wikimapia.org/?x=1105&y=692&zoom=11&r=0&type=&lng=0

Yes, it LOOKS normal, I agree ;)

But if you try downloading another tile, for example this one:

http://i1.wikimapia.org/?x=1155&y=692...

You will get something like this:

I guess they try to balance their server pool load in this way - different areas are stored on different servers.

And server number is calculated from x and y.

ah correct. then this is pretty clear

in your case,

1155 % 4 = 3

692 % 4 = 0

res: 3 + 0 * 4 = 3

so this should work

http://i3.wikimapia.org/?x=1155&y=692&zoom=11&r=0&type=&lng=0

hmm in this case, I should only contact owner of this site, because it really needs specific settings

EDIT: btw: are these maps really interesting in mobile device without active information overlay?

1. Your modified link does work, that`s right. But for using with Locus - every tile must be calculated at runtime.

2. I`m not sure what you mean saying "active information overlay". When you simply browse wikimapia.org - you see different text-labeled polygons created by multiple users of the site. If THIS is information overlay - then it is exactly what I want to use in Locus (as overlay to satellite image)

3. There is a SAS Planet project. It reads the "wikimapia hybrid" layer and I can convert a certain area to sqlite format and use in Locus. But it would be nice to download desired areas directly to mobile device. The site is http://sasgis.ru. Site is in Russian, I can help with understanding certain parts of it if you wish.

Thank you for this great application, I use Locus Pro and forget about any other GPS apps :)

1. I`m aware of this, that`s why I wrote sentence below

2. when I browse their map, I can also with mouse highlight some places and by click on them, I get some more information. That`s what I mean. Locus will only display static raster images, but probably same you download.

Ok, I`ll forward this to Hanka (team member) who will try to contact them ...

Thank you very much. Yes, additional info after clicking a place is interesting, but I understand that in Locus it will look like this:

And it will be enough for me.

There is no news about this?

I`m afraid wikimapia guys will not change their server assignment :(

I understand that it`s not good idea for Locus to parse string for every tile in providers.xml, something like

{serverPart} {x}%4+({y}%4)*4 {/serverPart}

The only way now is to make exception for wikimapia and add new hardcoded rule for serverPart.

I was thinking about somehow adding wikimapia, but adding active layers is problematic, but I have a different idea. Maybe somehow add a wikimapia to the search options in Locus? for example user can choose a point and in its options choose: "Search this location on Wikimapia", and if that point is in any Wikimapia areas, Locus will show a description of this area.

That was my another idea ;-) https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top...

"wikimapia map" and "wikimapia overlay" will be added in next Locus version. we`ve got permission from wikimapia owner ;)

wow. sound good! so one of those will be this "active polygons" feature?

eh no :) just one static map and one, same static map, but with transparent background
