Please consider supporting CalTopo maps.

Has this been completed? If not, are there any supported workarounds? Anything would help - I'm leaving g on a trip in a day or two so I'd love to figure this out ASAP!

Dear Adam,

unfortunately the implementation or negotiation was postponed and there isn't exact route plan at this moment. Please check USGS maps or Neotreks (formerly called Accutera maps).

The Neotreks can be downloaded via Locus Store, USGS are available in Map > Online (you can also download USGS maps but there is daily limit).

That's unfortunate. I really enjoy your app but having access to Forest Service maps in the US is exceptionally useful. Caltopo overlays or direct access to the forest service maps is the only missing function for me at this point. Otherwise nothing to complain about, thank you for the great app.

me too...I need USFS with the same data as caltopo uses so I can "snap to" any of the usfs roads an ddo not need to hand draw.

the wolinlabs url from that thread seems down but i figured it out anyhow. works quite nice! i'll repeat it here for others:

1. in caltopo go to print menu, select "Download KMZ or MBTiles"
2. select the area and zoom level (i could go to 16 on USFS, but i'm a paid subscriber)
3. download KMZ, and rename to something appropriate
4. using USB cable i copied to my phone's /Locus/mapItems folder
5. open locus and visit map items
6. enjoy new map

i tested only with FSTopo_2016 map, because that's the one i wanted the most (quite literally for an adventure this week -- this whole thread update was perfectly on time).

today I checked the possibilities how to support the FSTopo maps in Locus and I think that we would be able to prepare offline map packages from USFS data. We can not prepare snapping feature as presented by caltopo. But would be for you interesting to use (at least) FSTopo maps in Locus?

yeah the FSTopo maps are useful, they contain data which hasn't yet been added to OSM. some of the data is newer than the USGS maps, and when i'm in forest quads the additional data source is quite useful.

after posting yesterday i noticed there's a 200 tile limit per kmz on that caltopo print page, so some way to download more than that would be great.

i wonder if the caltopo route snapping feature is based off some of the shape data from: https://data.fs.usda.gov/geodata/edw/datasets.php?dsetCategory=imagerybasemapsearthcover in the "FSTopo Transportation Line" (and Point) shape files... but yeah, this isn't as critical to me. it's handy to have BRouter do these things when i'm offline and decide to improvise on a hike, but i can just as easily do a rough hand trace of a track i want to follow as long as i've got the underlying topo map to trace on.

wow dean...you may have solved this...I bet you are right. Caltopo's routing engine maybe uses this data. I would think the good folks at locus could also make this usfs snapping work or maybe brouter needs to make this work...not sure.

Even without the snapping, I would be very happy getting usfs in locus...I hope it happens.

I guess that Caltopo uses mentioned SHP file for snapping feature but honestly there are no plans for implemention such snap feature in Locus. I can only suggest to contribute to OSM project to improve the OSM data. (you can for example share your recorded tracks as GPX files).
