Error "upload track unauthorized"; what can I do?

Jochen Konietzko shared this problem 5 years ago
Not a Problem

Hi,

in the past week or so I recorded a number of tracks with "Locus Map Pro" on Android 7.1 without any problems.

Recording time was between two and five hours.

Yesterday I recorded a nine hour track; when I tried to upload it, all I got was the above error message (in white on orange).

There was no "upload failure" email message which might have told me more.

I tried again around midnight, and just now.

Same result.

To see if it was something about this particular track I tried uploading a short track that I had not uploaded before simply because it contained only one info relevant to OSM - same result.

I tapped "Remove Login" in Locus' Export dialogue, logged in again to OSM, making sure that Locus had all permissions necessary for upload granted - same result.

What can I do to get the info contained in that track (106 points) into OSM?

(In the OSM Help forum I found one possible workaround - upload through a browser via https://www.openstreetmap.org/traces/new

I'll try that, of course, but oploading straight from Locus would certainly be better.

Regards,

Jochen

Good day Jochen,

in some older version fo Locus Map was issue with login system to OSM server. Are you using latest Locus Map version?

Otherwise track with 106 points should cause no problem. In this case, may you please create for me a log message by this method right after un-successful export?

Thank you.

Hello, Menion,

I'm mystified: the link "this method" opens a page of definitions; athe top of the screen I see

3.282 Portable Filename Character Set

What exactly is this method?

My Locus Pro version is 3.32.0 .

I just tried to upload a 30 minute track - same result.

(The upload of the GPX file created from the nine hour track through the browser worked perfectly.)

Regars,

Jochen

Hello,

ah sorry! I was working on the different topic and incorrectly copy & paste the correct link into our docs.

Here it is: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log

Thank you!

Hi, Menion,

I think/hope that everything works again - though I would love to know what went wrong.

I had noticed that, at the same time as the sudden inability to upload, a second change had occurred, though this one was more quaint than annoying: on vector maps roads sometimes "multiplied" and only normalised when I switched to a different map and back. (FYI I'll try to attach a screenshot of a simple one lane roundabout.)

So I felt that something must have really screwed up my version of Locus Map; I uninstalled/reinstalled, restored the backup I had just made - no change.

I uninstalled/reinstalled again, this time restoring a two weeks old backup - and everything works perfectly again.

Jochen

Good day Jochen,

please give a try to, just yesterday published, version 3.32.2. There were two problems: 1) system of OAuth based login, which stopped to work due to some changes I made around login to different service and 2) generated descriptions that were visible in OSM editor. Both problems should be fixed now.

Roads are interesting. I'm adding to this topic my colleague Petr, who take care of maps if there is something with me do with it. Thanks.

Dear Jochen,

regarding the duplicated roads - could I ask you for more information, please:

  • is the map downloaded from Locus Store (if yes what's the name/country of this map)
  • what theme do you use ( i don't think that's caused by themes but only to be sure)
  • finally please send me address or GPS coordinates of wrong area, I'll check it

Thank you

BR Petr

Hi, Petr,

it's openandromaps (I tried all maps from 2017 and 2018 stored on my device; unfortunately, the only maps from your store on my device were several years old, and last night I deleted them. I might still have them on my PC's backup harddisc - not sure).

My theme is andromaps light, though I've just tried an internal theme (see below), and it is actually more extreme, because with that theme I don't just get a doubling of the road - the copy is of a different road type.

I had hoped that reinstalling the app and restoring an older backup would help - and I CAN once again upload stuff to OSM (as far as I remember, I installed the current version before doing this and still couldn't upload).

No such luck - the effect simply took a bit longer to appear.

It's always the same: when I start Locus Map, everything is normal; when I then move around the map for several minutes, the roads begin changing their appearance.

Regards,

Jochen

P.S. I tried last year's maps mostly because I was in Ireland last year as well, and this weird effect didn't appear then.

P.P.S. More strangeness: I just took another look at Locus Map; your theme was still active, and the fake (yellow) roads were still there.

So I changed to a different vector map, which, with andromaps light, puts everything back to normal for a few minutes.

Not so with the internal theme: about a second after changing maps, the fake roads appeared; some invisible hand drew them both, each going out from the R462.

This even happened after changing to the online map and back.

photo

Another "test": I changed to the external theme, then back to "Straße" - no fake roads... until I moved the map up a few millimetres, which saw the fakes being drawn again.

There is definitely SOME connection to themes.

Switching back and forth between the internal themes "Straße" and "Stadt" has the two fakes appear before the box with tick marks has been dismissed; switching to "Ski" or "Wandern & Radfahren" has everything back to normal; I then had to move around the map for so long that I began hoping that "Ski" didn't show fakes at all.

Moving back to the R462 showed the fakes, but switching to "Online" and back made them vanish.

They stayed gone in "Straße" - until I zoomed in and out a bit, when they were drawn again.

I just installed the LoMap for Ireland; no problem here, so it seems that there is an incompatibility of some kind between the current versions of Locus and the openandromaps.

I never encountered this effect in previous years, so something has changed; now the effect appears also with older openandromaps, so the change most likely happened on the Locus side.

I "flew" all the way to Dublin and back, both with "Straße" and with "andromaps_light", and there were no fake roads.

Dear Jochen,

well difficult to say. If you want to play it we could try some tests - for example remove all OpenAndroMap or LoMaps. Honestly I have never seen this yet. However would you please only check: Menu > Settings > Maps > Offline maps > Automatic map loading: is it enabled or disabled?

Thank you

Petr

photo

It's enabled.

photo
1

...or rather - it was.

I drove for six hours today; for the first ten minutes I still had it enabled, until the roads began to double.

I then disabled it, restarted Locus Map Pro - and (with map and theme from openandromaps) haven't seen a single doubled road.

What I'd like to know is: WHY?

What's so problematic about the automatic loading of adjoining maps?

photo
1

That's the question. Honestly I don't know. There is very likely some problem when Locus merge the maps but I don't know the reason. However we'll focus on it next week. Meanwhile is it possible for you to find minimal configuration? I mean to find only two maps that cause it?

Thank you for your help

BR Petr

Minimal... that's a hard one.

Ireland is the ideal country for „OSM as a hobby” - wherever you go (except for some of the larger towns) you are likely to find just the most important data on the map - often only the major roads and maybe a node for a petrol station.

Ireland has been my favourite summer vacation country for decades; both together means that I've got ALL the Ireland maps since July 2012 (when I „found” OSM) in my MapsVector directory.

I think my best option will be to switch autoloading back on again and temporarily move all maps but the oldest and the newest to a different place on my external SD card.

I'll do so now.

photo

You've definitely nailed it.

I removed all but two Ireland maps, scrolled to one of the spots previously featured, and there it was.

Screenshots show screen „on arrival”, 2018 only, 2012 only.

So, if I just disable autload, I should be o.k., even with dozens of maps for the same region in MapsVector (?).

Hi,

fine, thank you for the test

Is it possible for you to upload both maps into folder https://nas.asamm.com/share.cgi?ssid=08nkupT or share with us with Google Drive dropbox, etc?

We'll try to simulate it

Thank you

Done.

Saved using your link to Ticket_14416.

Download was very slow (50 to 150 kB/s); hope nothing went wrong.

The current map can, of course, be downloaded from openandromaps if it should have become corrupted.

I just checked again: It works after a few seconds of scrolling on the 2018 map I uploaded - both with your "Straße" theme and an openandromaps theme; I can't get it to work from your LoMap.

Hi guys,

isn't this just a simple problem caused by: when Locus Map autoload maps, it simply take data from both maps and draw them both!! If you use the same type of map, it is not a problem because they have the same data so it just draws two times same roads etc. Anyway, if the source of maps is not the same, it may cause these problems. One map probably uses more aggressive simplifications on roads and they then do not fit when placing one above the second. Solution? Use one source of vector maps or do not use automatic map loading.

photo
1

ahh thanks - that's explain everything. I thought that's duplication occurs only on border areas. I'm sorry Jochen for my ignorance.

I don't think that it's caused due to simplification but simply due to obsolete data. So please use maps from the same source and also keep maps up to date.

Thanks, Petr

Thanks, Menion and Petr.

The solution for me then is simply to keep autoload off, if I'm staying in my home area or in Ireland (in both areas I add at least hundreds of new data to OSM every year and like the easy way Locus has of loading maps of different age to see the development).

Right now I'm on the ferry, half way between Ireland and Wales, so it's switched on.
