Overlay theme

Is it possible to implement the possibility to have another theme for a vector map when it is used as an overlay than when it is used as a base map.

When a vector map is used standalone, several map elements are normally shown. But when used as an overlay over a online WMS map, perhaps only trails is to be shown.

As the list of different map elements can be long, it is tedious to select/deselect them when maps are changed.
