Tracking: Add new point: Screen center in addition to GPS

When tracking I regularly adding individual track points via "Add new point" for example to add new amenities to OpenStreetMap. Most of the time these points should be added at my GPS locations. But sometimes I want to add them to somewhere else on the map, e.g. a lookout tower in 50 meters distance.

Could you make an option if a user moves the map during tracking and then pressing "Add new point" that the Screencenter instead of GPS-position is used?

Like it's already possible if adding "classic" waypoints.

And small improvement in UI: when moving the map and adding a "classic" waypoint: in the field "LOCATION" either "GPS" or "Map center" is written. So user knows what's the coordinate-source of the added point is.

But if doing the same with an tracking-waypoint just the coordinates itself are written. So I'm not knowing if Locus is choosing GPS or screen center as its source.

Good day sonny,

I'm little worried, that such feature may complicate usability a lot. It is expected that when you store new point during recording, it will have your current location. If you rarely need map center, you may always on the screen where you edit point details (before final confirmation), tap on "target" symbol and choose "map center". If you need really often saving points out of your current GPS location, isn't better these points store in separate point folder named like "New OSM points"? If you use for this also "Quick new point" function that may help here a lot to make it even faster.

About text in coordinates field: in case of track recording, location by default is always GPS, so I rather displayed coordinates.

I didn't know that after first moving the map to a target location an than tapping onto "Add new point" still the GPS-location is the source for the new point. Cause if adding "standard" waypoints the behaviour is opposite and the map-center is choosen.

So if it's not able to make the behavour optinal like with normal waypoints (and instead clicking onto "target" icon), that would be ok. But I would recommend to write "GPS" into the coordinates field. This would be a good hint for useres that the source is maybe another one, as the one they are used if adding single Waypoints after having moved the map-center before. Or is there an eve greater advantage for useres to see the coordinates at first sight?

It is correct, in case of track recording, always GPS location is set as default. You are correct that "GPS" label is better, it gives a hint of what is saved, compare to "numbers" as coordinates. So at least, this changed. Thanks.

I would also like to be able to create a new waypoint at the current screen center. I find this very helpful for setting a waypoint at some other location on the map, and then Navigating to that point. In fact, I would be happy to always create a waypoint at the current map center. If I want a waypoint at my current location, I just hit the bottom left location button and take me to my current location before I create the waypoint. Having an "option" to create waypoints at the GPS location, or, at the map center, would be very usefull.

Hi Dean I'm not sure if your're talking about creating waypoints withing the track in tracking-mode?

If you just want to create a single Waypoint (outside a track), for example to navigate to that point, the automatic creation at mapcenter is already possible via settings:

Settings > Points & tracks > New point default location: "Map screen center"
