I can't find nearest POI being next to

PawelS shared this problem 5 years ago
Known

For example in offline I put a cursor next to a toilet. I use search POI as described (I hope) in http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:points:locus_maps_pois writing ,,toilet" and the nearest I get is 40 km away instead of 40 m

Hi Pawel

your description is not absolutely clear for me

#For example in offline ??

have been GPS switched ON or OFF while you searched for toilet ?

If GPS was ON, please switch it OFF and try to searche again.

Thanks,

please move your map in a area offside you have been with last satfix

and search for "Points around"

and report:

are these points arround your current map center or arround your last satfix position ?

Neither. In my current location, regardless GPS status, it can find the nearest toilet 25 km away. It was the nearest toilet 3 bike trips with Locus ago. On http://overpass-turbo.eu/ there are about 100 toilets closer. In another country with the map centred on a city in which vicinity I haven't been in recent years it can find Statoil gas station 3 km away, but a toilet 150 km away in a city I was last year. In the third country it can find a toilet 21 km away of a city hundreds of km away from places I've ever been. No Statoil gas station in this country.

Hi Pawel,

the offline POI search isn't such clever as you expected. If you type word "toilet" then Locus search for POIs that contains word "toilet" in their name. It doesn't search for type of POI. Because there are lot's of POIs that don't have name (especially the toilets) you get poor results. Please open section "Culture and tourism > toilets " to see all toilets around your location or map center.

Thanks, Petr

Hi Peter and thank you for the answer. So the manual should be corrected. Now there is ,,Full text search of names and keywords. E.g. keyword “pub” returns all points with “pub” in their name, description or amenity" for ,,Full text search of names. E.g. keyword “pub” in their proper name only". In the Locus next to ,,Search" there is enough space for such remark in a smaller font.
