Unable to search for the UK Postcodes

Dean shared this problem 5 years ago
Solved

What's happened to the UK postcode search? It used to be pretty good, however now it rarely finds the address. I've tried all three providers (Google, Bing, Graph Hopper) and all now pretty useless. Is there something I can try to sort this out? I'm a premium customer, and I use this to mark network locations for my job. With out a functional postcode search, I've lost a great deal of time planning etc....

Please help :)

Good day Dean,

may you write to us which postcode does not work for you so we may try to test it? I've tried a few of them and they all work correctly.

Seems also that GraphHopper does not return always correct results and Google seems to be a better choice here. Rarely we register problems in this internal Google geocoding service that solved a simple restart of the device, so you may give it a try.

Hi Menion,

Thanks for the reply.

Try HU17 7QA or HU6 7TR for example. I either get no search results, or it points at foreign countries. Very odd.

Have tried power cycle etc, and my phone has been reset recently.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Dean

Good day Dean,

this is a little problematic task. We have a generally negative experience with the reliability of Google geocoding on the Android platform. On some devices, Google geocoding fail for an unknown reason and at this moment, Locus Map uses GraphHopper automatically on the background as a backup solution. This is what happens on your device and I'm able to simulate this on one older device as well.

I have found an alternative web service https://postcodes.io/ that may be used for this task and made a really quick implementation. In the next version, it should firstly search for post code location with this tool, so give it a try and let me know. The new version is planned at the end of April, so give it a try and let me know if it works correctly. Thanks.
