Sorting waypoints by distance from map center

After last update, the points are no longer sorted by the distance to the map center, but by distance to my location. Is this new behavior? I liked the old one better.

Hello Michael,

I`m glad that someone even noticed this. Yes it`s correct. We were thinking about it for a long time ...

If you display points and you have enabled GPS, what you expect? I think that most people expect data sorted by distance from their current Location, no matter where they currently have map center.

What is your reason to prefer map center? I`ll gladly discuss about it ...

The reason I wanted the old behavior was for planning trips. I moved the map center to where I intended to go and had all the points nearby.

Are you telling me that if I do not enable my GPS, then it picks the map center? I would be perfectly happy with that.

understand. And yes it works in way you wrote ... try to disable GPS and then map center will be used as your current location for centering.

I just rather test it ... yes, seems to work in this way :)

Seems to work for me too. And might help me conserve the battery.

Many thanks!

Sorry I thought is is a bug, so I started a new thread (http://gsfn.us/t/428is).

In my opinion is to disable the GPS one additional step. This was not needed in the past. Lets see what others think about it.

I like more the old behavior.

I change by mapcentering-feature (center to gps or free map moving or mapcentering to a POI) and it works directly and fast.

Comparison...

Old handling:

1. One Click on Map-Center-Button bottom left to change from sorting according to GPS/MapCenter

New handling:

1. Doubletab to get right panel (top panel carries other important buttons for me)

2 long click GPS-button

3 select deactivate

alternatively for 2+3: Click GPS-Button to get Satelite-Page, deactivate GPS, click back to go to main screen (map)

4. Moving the map to desired center for sorting (if moving done before disabling GPS, sorting to last GPS position is done)

to go back to sorting according to GPS:

1. Doubletab to get right panel (top panel carries other important buttons for me)

2. long click GPS-button

3. select activate

alternatively for 2+3: Click GPS-Button to get Satelite-Page, activate GPS, click back to go to main screen (map)

4. waiting for GPS-Fix

Maybe it`s possible to get the old handling back via config-file?!

Hello Menion,

this evening I installed the latest update, but I was not able to see the switch in the settings. Is the parameter included? How to set?

Thx!!

you`re welcome ...

I`m still thinking about it. For new users, I`m sure this solution make sense. You expect that data are sorted by distance from your current position, not from any weird map center. On second side, sort by map center is in man cases much more useful and I also received many emails due to this (for my own big surprise). So this is probably not a final solution. Maybe I`ll do for this settings directly in locus settings ...
