How do I display Google Earth icons for my waypoints in Locus Pro

Answered

My Locus Pro, after the last update, does not display the good old Google Earth icons, but some icons I don't like and don't want to use.

Where can I change Locus Pro settings accordingly ?

And why does it change my Preferences after each update ?

Good day Mikey,

I do not know what are "good old icons". Share any file with me that I may display in Google Earth and then in Locus and I'll tell you what happen.

And what preferences are changed after each update? Nothing like this should happen anyway truth is that I've already read rarely that something like this happen.

Hi Menion,

I am talking about the standard GE Icons - I attached this screen caption from GE so you can see what I am talking about. At present, my Locus Pro displays some red, blue or green "shield-type" icons. I usually use the geometric icons from GE - the rhomb, triangle and square. They have precise meaning for me.

These icons were never directly available in Locus. Anyway if you import any kml file that has remote reference to these icons, they may work correctly in Locus. If you have any problems with certain file, just share this file with me, otherwise I won't be able to help/fix a problem. Thanks for understanding.

I used Locus last time 2 weeks ago. In the mean time it was updated.

I opened it now and it shows Google Earth icons. Last time it didn't - I swear to god.

Ok, so I guess my question is nil.

If it happens again, I will try to contact you. Possibly it's my mistake...

Regards,

Mikey

I believe you :). Anyway please next time, I need to simulate same problem on own device, so best is to share some KML files that do not work as expected. If same problem happen again, feel free to continue in this topic.

I just faced this problem.

I have old KML file with my points.

So, I tried to add new points to that file using GE

and then import it into LOCUS PRO.

Result:

- old points have correct icons

- new points displayed with "default" icon which inherited from points folder

Good day Andrey

point "INCORRECT ICON" point to style `#msn_ylw-pushpin13` which for normal style define

<Style id="sn_ylw-pushpin13"></Style>
So Locus has absolutely no idea what icon use here, so it uses the default app icon or default folder icon.

Yes, I fiugred that in KML file old and new points uses different icon styles.

But at the same time, Google Earth able to render both points with correct icons.

For example one of points which I added just yesterday have following style:

<styleUrl>#msn_ylw-pushpin2</styleUrl>

and this is DEFAULT icon which GE uses for new points.

and this point with such style, also didn't displayed correctly.

So for me, it seems that Locus developers should updated list of builtin icon styles.

Ps,

I use Google Earth Pro 7.3.2.5776 (5 march 2019)

UPD:

I think I got how it works.

So technically it's Google Earth must correctly fill the styles in KML, to have correct reference.

In case, the point does not have defined icon, Google Earth uses it's own "default icon". Locus Map uses different default icon, usually based on the defined icon for the folder where the point was imported. So I do not see anything that needs to be updated.

Simply, if you want yellow pin as default icon for all points that you import and that do not have icon define in KML file, just set this yellow pin as a base icon for a folder in Locus Map.

Well, yes maybe. But according to the Style name. Which is not explicitly defined in KML

sn_ylw-pushpin13 - means YELLOW PUSH PIN

which is not DEFAULT anyway.

So, as a temporary solution I can explicitly define this style in my KML.

But obviously better solution, is to add support of builtin GE styles to LOCUS.

Ah, these are some pre-defined styles of Google Earth? is there any official documentation for this?

Never heard about it.

I did some research on my side. And in the end of all, I'll rather say that this is GoogleEarth problem.

For example:

If you'll create a placemark and try to save it into KML

such KML will have no any references to icon image file

But if you'll set "no icon" in placemark properties, and then set same default yellow pushpin icon again, but manually. Then after saving this placemark to KML, this KML will have correct style definitions, with implicit reference to icon image.
