You can use an online map...

For offline us, you might want to buy one in the locus shop.

For Europe I personally use the OSM Freizeitkarte (just use google) in German or English language. You just need to know the country where you are. Okay in Germany you also should know the area, as they are very detailed.

Thankyou for your answer,

But what I meant is:

How can I find Offline maps (in my filesystem) that cover the current screen location.

Locus seems to read all maps at startup, so it has all maps in a database.

So it should be very easy to filter Offlinemaps, that cover the current location.

Orux can do this,  Oziexplorer can, why not Locus!

This is essential for an intelligent usage of a Map App, whe you someone has hundreds of Offlinemaps…

Thankyou,

Rainer

I am not sure, but locus is able to change maps:

Settings -> Maps -> Offline Maps

Here you may choose if locus switches the maps generally or maps of the same kind only.

It is not really the feature that you have requested but a first step.

Seems to be a feature request for the developers to highlight maps that cover the area...

Thankyou for your anwers,

But this is not, what I asked for.

I don't want locus to switch maps without my control, and I already have bought a large number of additional offline maps.

I have collected and calibrated hundreds of historical - and modern - topographical maps covering a large number of areas.

So many, that I can not have all in my mind at all times. So what I need is the usage of a database (which Locus seems to have already), that helps me to get a list of maps, that cover the current screen location.

Assume you are located at London's Tower with a modern map and want to see the same place on a historical map. But you can't remember, what maps you have, covering this place.

In Orux, or Oziexplorer I just press a button and get the list and you can choose to display one of them. Please see the attached screenshots of Oziexplorer.

Can this be done in Locus? I didn't find a way. It should be quite a simple task to program this feature.

Thankyou,

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

go to Maps > Offline > topbar > tap sorting button > select "Last&nearest"

Thankyou for your answer,

but doing so presents only two of the locus maps, and none of the dozens of my raster offline maps, that definitely cover the location I am on.

This does not work!

Please treat the feature I need as a feature request!

Thankyou,

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

thank you for reporting - there's a bug in the map manager sorting. Try Quick map switch in the left Content panel or you can add it on your screen as another button (more at https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_mmanager#quick_map_switch)

best regards

Thankyou for your Tip.

But 'Quickmaps' only shows a short list of the last maps I used, but not a list of Offline maps I could use at the current location, but, maybe, did not use for a longer time.

That is a different purpose.

Please add my request to the feature request list...

Locus Map is a brilliant app with many useful features and a good UI, but this seems to be a black hole. If the app reads the existing maps with their map bounds into a database at appstart, than it should be quite trivial to filter map bounds to display a complete, scrollable list of Offline-Maps, which include the current screen center.

Other apps can do this, but are not as good as Locus.

So I will keep asking for this important feature...

Thankyou,

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

all users' requests for features must go through the voting process here at our helpdesk. We don't add features based on one user's demand, sorry for that. So, please create a well described and argued idea here and let others vote for it. If it gets enough votes, we'll think about its implementation. So far, Quick Map Switch covered this request.

best regards

Michal
