Move to coord / locale problem

Jürgen Holm shared this problem 5 years ago

Hi,

moving to a coord. don't respect the locale settings. My default system language is de, so when I copied gps coord from Google maps the buffer reads:

X,xxx

Y,yyy

Locus want's a point "." and don't accept a "," resulting in dropping the "," by locus.

It would be also nice if locus accept the coord with one paste. Current I have to fill out the two lines in the search dialog - - pasting on every line an delete X or Y.

Hi Jürgen,

try following:

1) go to Locus settings > Language&Units > Lat/Lon format > select xx,xxxx° mode

OR

2) when copying coords to your phone clipboard, use "clipboard" method when moving the map:

Thanks Michal.

Sometimes I miss what you can configure. Locus is really complex. Therefore I love it.

Should the comma not be the default when system language is using it?

Hi Jürgen,

do you have any reliable reference or other proof that xx,xxxx° is a German-specific coordinate standard? We don't know any. We closely cooperate with numerous German Locus community and they have never mentioned something like that.

Hi Michal,

not coordinate standard but the locale definition for de.

If eg on unix LC_NUMERIC=DE_de.utf8 defines a "," for decimals (as on windows in Germany) . This is the reason for Google maps using a comma despite in US where a point is used.

Hi Jürgen,

thank you for your reporting. We analysed the problem a bit deeper and found out it is caused by an Android system error reported already in 2009! (https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/36907764) It affected all numeric fields across the app and we had to make a little hack to bypass it. The error in Android was repaired in 2017 and now we have to remove the hack which will take us a while. Until then, please use the "clipboard" when copying coordinates.

best regards

Michal
