Locus map for Garmin and Fenix 6 X Pro

Marius Moldovan shared this problem 4 years ago
Solved

I just bought Locus map for Garmin add-on to use with my smartwatch Fenix 6 X Pro Solar, but I had the surprise that it is not working, model not supported. Please make the add-on compatible with Fenix 6X Pro

Hello, Garmin still didn't released software tools to build apps for Fenix 6 (that is why your CIQ Store is that empty - except the apps provided by Garmin itself). It is expected, that it will be released pretty soon and we can assure you, that we will be among first to have our app compatible with Fenix 6!

Any idea if this will be available this week? I just moved from previous fenix model to 6x and going for a week trip in mountains. This feature meant to be critical for me save some space/weight and don't carry additional GPS device:(

I just installed the application on my watch, but unfortunatelly it doesn't open(or connect). It's says IQ with a ! exclamation mark..

On my phone it is like this:

Hi Marius, please update the app to version 1.6.1 and try again. Garmin released broken SDK, but we already find workaround.

Let me please know how it work for you!

After some testing, this is what it's wrong on my setup"

1.Since Locus is open and navigating..there is always a notification with Guiding from Locus app(on the phone), which is updating distance to next turn very often, so I receive on my watch a ton of smart notification from this Guiding, which is blocking my interaction with the watch.

2. I do not receive notification on the watch( audio and vibration) when it's time to turn direction( only visuals on the watch)

3. The map part it's broken: doesn't turn map track up... If symbol for vehicle it's going out of the screen, the map doesn't pan and it remains fix( not updating real position).. It does not mark the route to follow on the watch screen(do not know which way to follow/ turn when in map screen) And last the zoom control is broken..doesn't update in real time, only if I change screen and then come back to the map screen.. Do not have panning controls available

Hi Marius,

1) you can disable notification from Locus Map in Garmin Connect Settings. That way you will not be disturbed by this notifications on your watch during use of Locus Map on your Garmin. I will write this to the manual.

2) This is not yet implemented, we hope to bring it in one of next releases

3) Maps on Connect IQ is independent story... Panning and rendering navigation track is purposely not enabled due to issues in Garmin software. But the rest was handled by workarounds in my app compensating these presenting issues. But as reported also elsewhere, it seems that Garmin broke the CIQ maps on Fenix 6 models even more. I didn't yet have change to play with the app in real F6 yet so I wasn't able to see it like that. Would you be please so kind and record the wrong behaviour to video so I would be able to discuss it directly with Garmin?

Thanks Jan

I know I can disable notification from Locus Map,but maybe sometime I need these notifications(as I'm recording tracklog on phone) and maybe I need proximity alerts for points or geocaches or heart rate training zones alerts or out of route alerts(my phone is in my backpack and if I'm out of navigating route..I would not know because my watch will not alert me at all from Locus map) etc.

I think a better implementation is to work with Locus team and just ""ignor" this one alert about guiding which appears when I navigate from Locus and let all other alerts come through

2. I really hope you can implement the audio and vibrate alert for turns sooner, because else I will miss the upcoming turns.I'm not always looking at my watch and if I'm distracted with bike, I would not know that I need to turn left/right

3.I'll make a video with mapping problems

Hello,

it was confirmed that Garmin broken map screens for CIQ apps in their new devices. We will probably soon hide the map screen from the app until they will fix the issue as the behaviour is really confusing now.

Disturbing constantly receiving notifications is already repaired by Locus team and will be part of next release of Locus Map. We will try to implement vibration alerts as soon as possible.

Thank you guys for the feedback!

Thank for working on it..

P.S. About track AND waypoint import to watch:

There already seems to be an application that could move tracks AND Waypoint to garmin fenix watches

It is IQ Map Receiver and it can transfer waypoints also( I had tested with Fenix 6X Solar). It is designed for OSM And+ and Google maps to transfer data, but I tested with Locus and it works( not perfect..but it can be improved by Locus team)

Maybe you can do the same also for us in native application
