I suggest auto-start recording option when starting navigation/guidance.
Autostart Recording on Start of Navigation/Guidance
Completed
During my Bike-Tours I usually use the Navigation Features of Locus, which is very nice. But it happened to me more than once, that I forgot to also start recording, when I startet navigation.
It would be nice to automatically start track recording, when I start guiding/navigation. I know that there is the autostart recording, when Locus starts - Feature. But this is sometimes annoying compared to the proposal, because I also use the app to Plan routes. So either I have a track of me sitting in my house (and having intermttend GPS Signal) or cancelling the auto-Record there (and then probably forgetting when I go out on tour).
I like this idea
I just had to write such a proposal, but see that it has already been proposed.
I just want to add that i don'r want the tracker to end when guidance ends. I often keep going after that (eg to the next point, or back to the car). So when the trip is over, I want to turn the recording off manually in the usual way.

Or at the start a question:
You want to start recording too.

I have the same problem. If I only want track recording, then I always think about it. But if I do navigation, then I forget the recording very often. Maybe you can make a Field (checkbox) in the navigation settings "automatically start recording at start navigation". When I select this field, the question always arises at the start, "Do you want to start recording". If I do not select this field, everything is as current.

I forget it whenever I start navigation. Men can not do 2 things at the same time. smile
Is there a way to detect "start navigation" via Tasker and then start recording?
But it is better if you could choose it in the settings.

How can I capture the start of navigation with tasker ?

Ok thanks, then I'll wait for the new Beta...looking forward to it!

Well I tried tasker, but I prefer an autostart of recording when a navigation is started. I am used from my former GPS that it always record when navigating. With Locus, I often state after a while, that I have forgotten to start recording,
I think most of us want to record their tracks and therefore it should start automatically with the opting not to start or stop ist,

Please someone enlighten me. Is this about navigation to a point or along a track?
And do you want the travel statistics in general, or speed, avg speed etc or the actual track recorded.
Some people are actually talking about navigating (or guiding) along an existing track (in their phone) and recording it. But then you have it twice, so please, tell me what am I missing.
Otherwise autostart would mean that the average user is unknowingly filling up his or her phone with recordings.

For me it is not necessary. I am able to start the recording myself.
I am also able to open my pants before I pee.

I really want this function and it is disappointing that this feature request has been sitting here for years and hasn't been implemented yet.
It has been multiple times that I forgot to start the recording and I lost data during my frequent hikes.
I know that the auto start feature exists, but that's more annoying than helpful. I use the app to plan my routes, I update the maps, I export map data, import points of interest etc. I don't want to start recording every time. It's also not reliable since you can stop the recording immediately and then switch to another app and when you come back it won't auto start because the map app was already on.
I also think a lot more sense to auto start the track recording with navigation then on app start. Most people plan routes and then want to compare it to recording afterwards or just archive it to later see where they went.

It would be nice to get some official feedback.

Hi,
I raised this with the Locus team a long time ago as well. Unfortunately, features that offer little practical value tend to stay, while more useful and sensible improvements somehow fail to gain traction.
Many interesting suggestions never make it through. Their approach seems to be that if users aren’t actively asking for something, there’s no point in developing it.
Best regards,
Waldek

Hi all,
feature is now implemented and will come with the next Locus Map Beta.
It works thanks to the Presets system. Open a preset, add the "Start recording" option to it and switch it on. Link the preset to the navigation type (for example car or bike) and every navigation of that type starts the recording automatically, with the recording profile the preset selects. A recording started this way stops when the navigation ends.
You may also activate a preset with this option enabled to simply start the navigation together with bunch of additional settings. In this case, recording won't be stopped and you have to do it manually!
Thanks for the long patience and the idea!

Thanks a lot. I will check it out when available.
I thought about how an automatic recording should react when the navigation ends before. I'd prefer it to either keep running until stopped manually or the app is closed. At least the app should ask if the recordings should stay on. Just like it asks if you want to exit the app when navigation or recording is on.
The reason is that it is easy to just cut off extra parts of a GPX recording afterwards, but it impossible to add parts that weren't recorded in the first place.
E.g. on my previous weekend tour I was in the middle of the hike and then saw that there was a different route I could chose. So I stopped the navigation, edited the route and then started navigation again. This shouldn't create two recordings.
Another thing that often happens is that the planned start is not available, because I had to park my car somewhere else or the hike had to be started at another point. Then the end of the planned tour does not match the route I have to take to my car. In that case I turn of the navigation, but the recording stays on, because I like to record the whole way I hiked.
But then I don't really understand what is meant by "activate a preset" where the recording stays on. I always pick a track and start the navigation.
I guess I have to try it.
