I cannot install Locus from the APK file.

I installed the latest version of Locus from Google Play. After some time, I found a bug in Locus and restored Locus from Titanium Backup. But Locus did not start. Error "application crash".

I uploaded an APK file with the older version I needed. I started the installation. The installation did not happen, the error message "package damaged." But I am sure that the file was downloaded without errors.

I deleted Locus and deleted the Locus folder. I started the installation from the APK-file again. Locus is now installed, but Locus did not start again. Error "application crash".

I installed the Locus version from Google Play again. Everything is working.

My phone is running Android 7 and for a very long time nothing has changed.

There was no such problem before, I could easily install any older version of Locus.

Help me find the reason why I cannot install Locus from the APK file.

Exactly the same with me.

Behaviour occurs since Version 3.40.0. After installing this version, re-installing of _any_ version from the apk-file fails (meaning installation works but starting the application fails).

Hello guys,

do not know from where you download APK, but since 3.37.2 Locus Map can't be simply installed as APK file out of Google Play.

Technically there are methods, but we do not recommend it and definitely do not support it.

Hello Menion,

we did not download any APK file from another source – they are backupped from our own smartphones.

This means from now on it’s not possible any more to get back to a previous version, if there are bugs or incompatibilities in a newer version. This is a problem especially for older phones or operating systems – updating to a newer version is getting risky when you don't have the newest hardware.

As a consequence, users of older phones will have to stop updating to avoid installing a version wich is not working adequately any more.

If this change was made intentionally, this puts users of older hardware to disadvantage. If not, is it realistic to change this behaviour?

Will backups no longer work?

Hello,

i have a Samsung s7 with androide oreo , i have the same problem , i saved the previous version 3.39.3 with my smartphone ( with cx explorateur file) , then i delete the version 3.40 and i install the version 3.39.3 with my backup , instal ok but to start the response is " locus stopped " .

It's not normal no to let us install a previous version.

I request a correction for the next version.

Thanks

I do not know anything about "backup of APK on own smartphone" sorry. But logically such backup should work without a problem.

Locus Map is now published in the new format so-called AppBundle, so if you want to use any other installation method then Google Play directly, it is necessary to find something more about this on the internet.

EDIT: quick search and seems there exists any cumberstone methods for this, like here.

Dear Menion,

ah okay, I understand. Then thank you for the information about the AppBundle and for the link – then there is still a solution for us to backup and restore an older version, if this should once be possible. :)

This is not good. I always make a standard backup before updating with "App Backup & Restore" and now you are telling me this is useless in the case of Locus.

Mind you, first of all I am a user. My daily "tool" should always work. I learned to avoid the x.xx.0 versions. Often too buggy.

I seldom have time to help with beta versions, sorry for that.

Bit I really think that going back to an older and working version should be possible in an easy way (I am not a geek or programmer). I am a user and do not want to have my holiday trips going bad.

100% agree with Henk. I copy APK with TotalCommander and want to be able to go back to a working version, if new one is too painful.

A little complicated task to solve. The new system allows that every installation of the application is optimized for current user/device, so it has different languages, different special libraries (different across devices), later will come also different included functionality. The same will happen for most apps over time as this becomes a defacto standard for Android apps.

For me, it means more precise testing and fewer bugs in initial major versions.

Hi,

would someone please give me a short pointer as to how you previously restored Locus from backup? On my old phone I have an old Locus version that I bought from AndroidPit some years ago, but even though I did not install Locus from Google Play on my new phone, I can't get the backup running: No matter if I copy the whole Locus folder or use Helium backup, the restored installation on the new phone will always start as if it was freshly installed from scratch and check the Google Play store for my registration (which obviously does not exist).

Thanks.

Stefan
