"Hold map center" not working permanent

Guest shared this problem 4 years ago
Solved

Hi, the last weeks (or even months) I'm suffering of a quite annoying problem: I usually have "Hold map center" active. But this is not working permant and if not I've to click onto the bottom-left button all the time to recenter the map. This is quite annyoing during driving the car or bike.

The nasty thing is, that this bug is not all the time. If starting Locus and guiding to a waypoint the feature most of the time works (map is recentering automatically). But after sometime this feature is not working any more. Undependend if guiding on or off.

I couldn't find out which of my inputs or behaviuor makes the "Hold map center" stop working. I definately don't turn on/off it, it's a bug that always pop's up after some minutes of Locus use.

Do you have any idea what could cause this problem? Maybe it's a combination of my used maps, the hardware of my phone etc.

Hi Sonny,

go to Locus settings > Controlling > Map screen > Hold map center - switch it on. When your centering button is bluee, "hold map center" works. If you tap it and it is black, "hold map center" doesn't work. Heep it blue and the map will re-center automatically.

HI Michael, sorry if I didn't explain my "bug" accurate enough. This option you mentionend is switched on all the time. Mostly recentering of Locus works the first minutes I use it. But after some time it isn't recentering any more - even if the option is still turned on and the button is blue. And this "bug" is occuring each time I'm using restarting Locus. The first time recentering works, suddently it refuses to recenter.

So I'm afraid this is not just a "common" bug, but just occuring maybe because of my used maps, or the hardware of my phone. or some other setting of Locus which by chance has negative influence to this setting after some time of Locus map being active.

So maybe you or Menion have got an idea which could cause the recentering suddenly not working anymore each time I'm using Locus.

Maybe I also mixed something, and the problem has nothing to to with "Hold map center":

The real problem is, that during guiding (and also without guiding) the map-cursor constantly moves out of the center of the map and after some time even removes from the screen. So the viewable section of the map stays constant and is not follwowing the map-cursor. And that even if the center-button is blue!

And to recenter the map-cursor again I have to press the centering button. This is of course very annoying.

Hi Sonny,

this, of course, seems like a bug. Unfortunately, it is very difficult, or rather it is impossible to fix a bug that we are not able to simulate, or we haven't exact replicable steps leading to it. We'll wait if someone else reports anything similar. So far, we have nothing to start with.

For me, it happens every time that I use Guide navigation..

Hi all,

unfortunately, I must repeat the same: it is very difficult, or rather it is impossible to fix a bug that we are not able to simulate, or we haven't exact replicable steps leading to it. Thanks for understanding.

The bug have been introduced in the last 1 or 2 versions ago, before it used to work OK, I had been using the function. Maybe check the code that had been changed since..

For me the bug is occuring not just since the last 1, 2 versions but for several months, maybe even longer. The last weekend I did a biketour with a friend of mine who is also using locus, but on another mobile phone, different brand, difference android version. But she had the same problem. Holding map center works intiallly. But suddenly the cursor isn't centered anymore on the map if we are moving. Or in other words: The cursor is moving and still showing the actuall GPS-position but the map is not moving anymore to keep the cursor centered - although blue centering button is active.

The one thing we had in common is the use of offline openAndroMap.

Comparing old and new code is almost impossible in this case. Anyway, I made a small change in the place, where the problem may occur. So in the next version, you will see. If problem persists, I'll have to rewrite part of logic so let me know after test with 3.41 version, thanks.

I have the same problem with the Locus app, the map does not hold the center even when the button is on. It usually appears after about 2-3 hours of use app.

I had the same problem. Sometimes While navigating or recording the map will not center for the entire session. I have to either drag the screen with a finger and wait 5 seconds, or press the centering button 2 times. Sometimes centering works as designed. I don't have enough trial and error attempts to find out what I did differently to get it to work, but I suspect that a pop-up on a waypoint was open and the active hotspot prevented automatic centering while in motion unless the screen was dragged with a finger.

The problem only started perhaps 3 to 4 months ago. Before then it worked perfectly.

I can confirm that on my phone the problem is caused by the info pop-up being active. If you enter navigation with the arrow button on the mini info window then it will close itself. But if you enter navigation with the full screen info window then the mini info window stays open and prevents automatic centering. You must then tap around the info window to close it, or else drag the map with a finger and wait 5 seconds for auto centering each time you want to center.

If someone wants, it should be possible to test if this problem is fixed in the latest Beta version.

I had also the same problem while in Navigation... ( mention that I had displayed on the map a lot of geocaches POIs)

Hallo

I found out the following

  1. press auto center and track up.
    All works fine.
  2. Select a point.
The info label for that point opens.
  3. From this time on, auto center stops working.
The cursor will slowly wander off-screen.
Track up still works fine, but makes the view even more irritating.
  4. When you deselect and select auto center, it will re-center once, but then walk away again.
  5. I need to remove the point information, then auto center works again.

This issue has been around for quite some time. It took me a while to understand the root cause.I can still reproduce this in version 3.41.0.

Find some screen shots attached.

Cheers

Michael

Hello Michael,

thanks for a very precise description. I've discovered this problem a few weeks ago and it should be definitely fixed in version 3.41.0. May you please just quickly double-check that you really have this latest version and that this problem occurs with this version as well? Thanks!

Hallo Menion

I could confirm today that it now works well in the current version.

Thanks for your work

Michael
