Automatic track-recording from last recorded track when I push the track recording button.

I still miss automatic track-recording very much. Please add a setting that the last recorded track will automatically start and carry on the recording as soon as I push the track recording button.

I like this idea since I have lost some very long trackings due to battery failure on my 8+ hours kayak trips. The phone died before I reached my destination and was able to save my track. It would be nice to be able to swap battery and continue from the same recorded track. -I am familiar with the "Merge tracks" that can be done in retrospect, but this is better if it is technically possible.

My idea for implementation has a couple of possibilities:

1. Long-pressing the pause button brings up a menu - "Normal pause" and a "Pause with memory-dump to card" of sorts that can be continued from after a shutdown / battery swap, and last, this menu has a third option "Resume from memory dump". When choosing "Resume from memory dump", this will open a folder with the dumps previously made, labelled by date and time.

2. A lot tricker alternative to program I guess will be to continue from any previously recorded track. I think this is what Ivo wants in the above post. But hey, if it is possible, then yes please:) If so, then #1 can be disregarded.

-The record button could have a menu if you long-press it: "Normal record", "Record from last time" and "Record from listed tracks".

Important: If there is a difference in distance between the stop/resume, then a line between those spots should be auto-drawn that has a value of the average speed in the recording.

3. Related to missing tracks due to a dead battery: Optional battery alarm on for instance 5% remaining by waking up the screen and sounding off long, high pitched beeps. The standard battery alarm on most phones is a bit vague and is too easily missed. This is perhaps something for another thread?

Yes you are right I mean version 2.

Another big help would be if I could resume an old track.

I vote for number 2. Right now, if your press the "wrong" button just once (ie stop), you will never again be able to have a proper track recorded for that day. You have to fiddle with the merge thingy and awkwardly renameing tracks around in the end. Resuming track recording even after a (wanted or unwanted) stop would be nice.

Hi guys,

I`m surprised you have request on resume of previous record. In case you start record and then without stop, you pull out battery, then after another start, Locus should offer you if you want to continue in previous record. This do not happen?

I need this function mainly when I am driving in the car e.g. in Africa, so battery is not a problem.

I use track recording to draw my own map from national parks where no map is. Thats why I would like to resume my old track to have just one track as map of the area.

As far as I know Locus offers continue in previous record only if Locus crashes but not when I manually want it? I want to have this option when I want it and with which track I want it.

I tried this now just a couple of minutes ago to make sure, in case this was a brand new feature I had not noticed before.

-I took my bike for a short spin and pulled the battery, without stopping the recording beforehand. When I rebooted my track was gone (not in list and not on screen), and there was no option to continue where it left off.

depend how "short". Locus store data to card every 30th point, so if you have recording to 10 sec, it should be almost 5 minutes.

I`ll probably limit it to 30 points or 1 minute

yes that`s correct. There is currently no way to continue in manually stored track, only in case, Locus crash or your device is turn off by accident, or locus is killed by system etc ...

so if I understand correctly, one useful method should be some additional menu on long-click on "REC" button, that will allow to continue with track record on some previously stored track right?

I had a ride for about 1km very slowly so it was about 5-6 minutes or so.

I will do another test right now and I will post again in ca 20 minutes:)

Yes thats a very good idea!

btw. dont forget the widget..

Well, slap me around and call me Susan... I came back from my second and longer test and now it worked... Granted I lost ca 1 km of the total 3km ride. See the white line drawn in freehand.

But I cannot however figure why I lost my entire 8-9 hour long kayak trip when the battery died. Perhaps there are some other fail-safe routines when abruptly pulling the battery contra when the phone shuts down in a standard fashion at 1% battery?

Just to be clear: i never lost a considerable amount of points, let alone tracks. Locus is extremely well behaved at that.

There could be a button like this in the track panel.

I lost one of my tracks (aircraft track! ) only once. I hope it will not happen again. I`m pretty sure it was caused by low disk space...

Quick refresh of a great idea.
