map screen on GarminVicoactive 4s does not update

I use Lotus Map Mobile with my Samsung A6 (2016) cell phone and Garmin Vivoactive 4s. Connection works fine and recorded data is transmitted perfectly between the two devices. However, the map page on my Garmin smart watch does not update and sticks with the initial map picture loaded when the app is started. The GPS cursor also remains in the same spot.

Hi,

Can you please send picture of the screen with freezed init-map image? Did you tried to wait longer time to refresh? What map do you use in Locus Map?

Thanks,

Jan

Dear Jan,

When I started an activity on the Garmin watch, the track was recorded but the map did not follow my movements. It just remained at the starting point of the activity and showed a blue arrow (as in picture 1) I use LoMap Switzerland. Today, for the first time, I a got a red arrow on the map page witch followed me around (see picture 2). This time I had not started Locus Map Mobile on my phone. Is there perhaps a problem when Locus runs on both, the watch and the phone? I will try to record a new hike shortly and follow it on the map page on the watch. Will keep you posted of the outcome.

best regards,

Kurt

I see. Well there are two things to consider:

1) delay of map loading - this is indicated at the bottom of the map and shows number of seconds between start of the loading particular map image and its rendering on screen. If this goes above 20-30s there is some issue in connectivity and can be reason why the map is not updated.

2) Do you have enabled GPS in your Samsung? The map can run in two modes - either showing position of Garmin watch (red arrow) or smartphone (blue arrow). See: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:add-ons:locusforgarmin#data_screens

Dear Jan,

I think the problem occured when the Android GPS was used (blue arrow on). Maybe the GPS was turned off automatically after a while. Anyway, the map seems to work when only the smart watch GPS is active. As I said, I will do some further testing. Thanks for your quick response!

Best regards,

Kurt

Dear Jan,

I have tried again today, but the map page strictly remains on the initial segment. The red arrow turns in the direction I am heading, but, after a short distance, it does no longer move on the map. When I stop and restart the activity in different place, the watch tries to load the original segment again but is stuck after 3 quarters of the screen are filled. See enclosed picture. I suppose this is a problem of insufficient memory on the part of the Garmin Vivoactive 4s smartwatch?

Best regards,

Kurt Zeller

Hi Kurt,

position is still centered on map screen, so change of the position is indicated only after map is realoaded. In you case it is clear that communication between phone and watches doesn't work as expected (download of one tile failed completely). I am afraid I can't provide any more help now until more users will report same issue.
