OSM URL

Q: how can I generate an OSM link using Locus Pro? Like:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/51.65324/5.04868

The other way, Locus can import such a link and show the map.

I ask, because I am a heavy Locus user for doing OSM map updates.

Hi,

thank you for the question but this isn't really possible. And I don't think if it would useful for other users. Please use at least sharing location feature or mentioned OSM tools

Thank you for understanding

Petr

Well, impossible is not the case as here is stated how to implement it:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Shortlink

I indicated in my original post that Locus already can import it, my question is on export it.

It's not problem to implement it. I only mentioned that isn't possible to export such url at this moment. I'm sorry but we can't see any benefit for majority of our users.

My case is that I can generate such a OSM URL link on phone and share it to a non-geo friend. He can click on the link and his phone will then open the browser of that phone and show that OSM page.

Today I can only generate a 'other apps' link in Locus and am forced to select Google Maps and share that link. I dislike that as I regard Maps as the wrong choice for proper maps. Better move people into using proper maps with OSM and using proper tools like Locus.

It would indeed be nice if there were more options than only Google Maps for location sharing. I am using LOcus 99% outdoor and offroad, so Google links do hardly ever show a usable map.

Maybe change this one to an idea for collecting votes.

Hi guys,

what about the "Quick bookmark" feature? It's exactly made for such cases ;).

Manual page: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:quick_bookmark

Nice. Never used that one. Quick link in the right side bar, hit the button opens the site. Copy URL and Whatsapp it to my (very ill) friend who follows us on our hikes. Gives him some distraction.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map={mapZoom}/{mapLat}/{mapLon}

Thank you Menion.

Mm, sharing via Whatspp fails because everything after .org/ is cut off. I have to manually paste the full link after copying it from the webbrowser.

Actually Chrome kills the full link, so sharing from the Chrome screen does not work. Tested via email. Only copy and paste goes.

I would love an easier way with less clicks.

Well, I also finally got it to work (RTFM...). But no clue what the 'app selection' should do. When I select WhatsApp:

I move the map in Locus to a certain location and zoom level; I push the bookmark option and select the 'OSM' choice; then the phone comes up with some apps to select: Locus Pro, Locus Free beta, Cruiser, Cruiser GL, and my browser. But not WhatsApp.

When I select the browser as next app, then the OSM site comes up nicely and I can share that web page in whatever tool (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc).

BTW, my browser of choice is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=acr.browser.barebones

In that one, sharing a page works fine.

NIce Frank but Chrome has some advantages for me I do'nt want to miss yet.

I did select Whatsapp as preferred app and even the quick bookmark changed it's logo to the Whatsapp logo but hitting the action button still only gives me the choice between Locus and Chrome.

I think we need action from the Locus team because the function seems to be broken.

Hi guys,

it is a little technically more complicated topic. This feature was made mainly to share url to other web services. Anyway, I made an improvement so if Locus Map detects that selected target application is WhatsApp, it will behave as expected. If there will be interest in some other apps to work differently, just let me know.

Works great now, sending OSM link via Whatsapp.
