Cannot read longer Chirp Modules (Garmin)

Hello Locus team,

I am using the Pro version 3.45.1 (user ID 8faf847da3) from LucusMap. I also use Locus for geocaching and for reading chirp modules (from Garmin!).

Since the update to Android 10 on my Galaxy S9, reading chirp modules no longer works (functions => hardware devices => ANT Manager => geocaches).

The chirp is shown to me with its name, then only "Bearbeite..." appears and the activity has to be canceled with the home button and closing all Apps.

Are you aware of this problem with the new Android10 version ant ANT+?

I am using the following Versions:

- ANT+ Plugin v3.8.00

- ANT radio services v4.15.20

- ANT HAL services v3.0.0

Thanks for a quick info,

greetings

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

thanks for your precise bug-report. We are currently not aware of any problem with ANT+ sensors. Truth is, that Chirp devices are not too used.

May you please try this sample app, if it will work? If all will be fine, that I'll have to ask for creating a bug report by this method. Inside should be (hopefully) visible reason why the app crash to you. Thank you very much.

Looks like the sample app does not work with Android 10 too.

Newest comments from german userrs translated via google:

"It worked for years. With Android 10 it no longer works. Please fix ......" on 08.05.2020

"Unfortunately, the app no longer works on Android 10." on 09.03.2020.

"Even on Galaxy 9+ after an update to Android 10, the app no longer works. Please patch." on 06.03.2020.

Last update of the app: 18. August 2014.

Seems the app is not so uptodate as Locus ;-).

Hmm, you are right with comments.

Problem is that the sample app is made by creators of the whole ANT+ library/system. So if their app does not work, we have a problem.

I just remind myself that I was solving a problem with ANT+ on Android 10, 3 months ago! Found a help in this discussion on the ANT dev forum: https://www.thisisant.com/forum/viewthread/7269. And I had a confirmation that it is solved here (sorry, Czech post).

Seems that in the case of Chirp sensor, the issue is not yet fixed and after checks, there seems to be no new library for the test ...

Only troubles with ANT+ devices ...

Sorry Thomas, we have to wait now ...

Hi Menion,

thanks for your support. So who are we waiting for? Can I support somehow?

Best regards Thomas

Currently on

a) own device with Android 10 and ANT+ support (I do not have such device), so I may test it more deeply if there isn't any hack that may help here, or better

b) official update of ANT+ library ... if any come in future. Last update is from 2015, which is in developers world really really really old.

Hi Thomas,

as a first step you can send Menion a bug report by this method.

With this bug report Menion is maybe able to find out what causes the troubles.

Thanks c.s.g., right it may be helpful. I've expected it will be same problem as for other ANT+ devices, anyway if you have a time, give it a try, thanks.

Hi Menion,

I am no Android Pro at all, but maybe this helps?

Hi, this is a fix I've applied 3 months ago and that solved connection problem with (almost all) ANT+ devices .. as mentioned in linked topic. I hoped it is solved for all ANT+ devices, but seems not.

Hello Thomas, c. s. g.,

I'm not perfectly sure about the current status of ANT+ Chirp connection problems, but as I know, Locus Map 4 does not have any known problems with (re)connection to ANT-powered devices.

If there are any remaining problems with the Chirp support, then sorry, but as I wrote to c.s.g. in a different topic, usage of this sensor is really low and I do not think that this sensor has a bright future. Thanks for understanding.
