Map Rotate then standing still.

I have problem with map rotate"shake" on my Galaxy Note 9. Then i drive no problem maps rotate correct and works perfectly but then i stop and look at the map it is moving around the center point. I have test different settings on compass.

Thats helps but not enough to be accepted.


Works perfektly in OsmAnd.


Pleace look in to this problem, it not easy to navigate then map rotate then stand still. Works correct then moving.

Please, can you send me a screenshot setting your compass?

Try calibrating the compass on your phone. How to calibrate, please see https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_calibrate_compass

Hi!

I have tested to calibrate the compass several times . That's doesn't help at all.

I have also test al lot off different settings on the compass. The settings show in pictures is the settings that's works best. With this setting the map stop rotate after about 10 seconds then i have stop drive and show the map right.

I have also tested a lot off different Navigation apps and this problem i only have in 2 of all app.

I cant understand why it works like this. Then i drive every thing works. Why not lock map then speed is zero?

Think that´s is what the app that's work correct is doing?

Please solve this issue!!!

Hello Jonas,

how are you using your device? We talk about usage in the car when the phone is mounted in some kind of "holder"? Other apps you tested the rotate map with inner compass, so map rotates as you rotate with the device? If they always rotate only by movement, why don't you enable also rotation by the moment in the Locus Map app?

I'm currently not aware of any problem with a compass in Locus Map, but if you are interested, I may prepare a test version that will print some info into a log, so I may better check where is a problem.

The "auto-change" setting is definitely too low. Try it out at 6 or 7 km/h, otherwise the GPS fluctuation will make the map flutter. (Allthough a hardware compass in a car is also sensible, depending on where you put the device.).

I think Henk definitely has a point here. You also have to ask yourself what exactly is a standstill? I think better detecting "real" downtime can prevent a lot of trouble. This by also activating the motion sensor in the decision process.

The somewhat older (no longer in G-play) app Movetracker by Tinkerpete (formerly GPSSend) did (does) an excellent job in terms of a complete standstill detection, this for the alarm dispatch.


You can still find the apk file. Why it has been removed from Google play? Presumably because it no longer fits into Google's security policy. = Sending SMS. Nowadays most users do have free SMS service now and even unlimited. This SMS alarm works great indeed. Just test it.

Motion dedection (filtered). Not only usefull for improving that always somewhat 'unstable' GPS location behavior, but also to completely avoid a track record with too many glitches.

Hi!


I use it in car and on a motorbike.

I have tested all settings I now and that hsve not help me.

If you think i have wrong settings please show me how to setup.

It is working best then i have the setting used in picture on the previous post. (The speed high or low dont change any thing)If I only use on any other options it is a disaster.

Hello Jonas,

I'm sorry, but I do not know. If you use it in the car, best should be using compass "Orientation via GPS". If not enabled on your device (should be), check you have "Google services assisted location" enabled and you may also enable "Location filter" to at least light value. Also, check you have Settings > Navigation > Advanced settings > Snad to route > enabled!

With this, it simply has to work. Only what may make trouble is jumpy inaccurate GPS, which should be not a case of your device.

I have tested at least 10 x. NO navigation ! By simple map view only.

OsmAnd on the Ace2 phone. Locus on THL > gps by bleutooth gps signal from Xiamo Mi A2 Lite.

On both phones map direction orientation by GPS. OsmAnd mosty shifted only a few degrees after a stop but never turned 180°.

Locus in +50% of the tests does. Tested by all means: Google assistence on/off, filter off to heavy and so on.

I sometimes had the impression was even becoming worse. Not stable.

It looks like osmand by some means detects a stand still ?

My general impression is Osmand location updates are a little bit retarded compared with Locus.

But the test phone Ace2/osmand = Older and slower phone anyway !

In video see the referencing track record tail line. (Display Locus turned 180° while looking at osmand)

A record with a tail. I usually do use tail recording for orientation help, where I come from, even when the map starts rotating.

See animals, they do use their short tail, this as a means of orientation for hunting.

Just a fresh idea: I wonder if Locus can't use a short last traject part reference of the recorded track tail for a more stable map orientation alignment ?

Generally the Locus map turning orientation stability (not navigating) by gps is not great.

The service of a correctly dimensioned tail should eventually bring in some more stabilty?
