How do I save a path that I discovered?

Sometimes when hiking, I discover a path, that is not shown on the map. I'd like to save these, so I can view them on my map, together with all the other paths on the map.

I could record it and save it as a track, but since a track has a direction, it is not appropriate, as my discovered path has no direction. I would also like navigation to take these paths into account.

What is the best way to save and show these paths on the map?

The navigation with Brouter has the data after a week. It used to be like that. But I think there is a possibility to have new data after a day.

You can make a copy of your recording. Then edit the track and shorten it down to the missing path. Then save them in a separate folder (missing paths). There you specify that all tracks adopt the Style folder. In the stem folder you define the appearance of the track. Choose a track style that is similar to the trails (color, width, etc.). But you can also give each individual track a separate style. The style folder saves work.

Nevertheless, I ask you to maintain the data in OSM. Other users are grateful to them. And if they think so, they also have better map data.

That depends on which card you are using. Most are based on OSM. Then you have to enter the recorded trace there. https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/49.1294/9.5828

Then after the update of the map, the track is displayed. The same for navigation.

That's going to take a while until the edit gets accepted, and the map updates, maybe a few months. Plus the edit may not get accepted. Is there no way to add a path to the map just for myself, for immediate use?

It's OK if navigation doesn't take it into account, although it would be a plus if it would.

Thank you, I'll try to do that, both saving as tracks, and editing OSM.

Hi,

I'm sorry but the best solution is to become a member of OSM community and add track into OSM. Please see https://learnosm.org/en/beginner/ for more info.

For example, in Maps > Online > Osm other > Classis is an update available in a couple of minutes (I think :) ). For other offline map can be update really slower. It depends what map do you use.

Thanks, Petr

Thank you, that link will be useful when I wish to edit OSM.

I use offline LoMaps, which seem to only update every few months.

Thanks, the LoMaps are updated every 2-3 months. There are some alternative projects like OpenAndroMaps that are updates more often.

I hadn't heard of OpenAndroMaps, good to know about it.

However at the bottom of https://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/asia-middle-east it says: "Update schedule: 4-5 weeks for Europe/Germany States, 4-5 times each year for Germany general-map + the other areas". Since I leave in 'other areas' it's not more often than LoMaps.

I'm sorry I'm not so familiar with OAM. I thought that maps are updated more frequently. So I can only suggest to use some combination online OSM (too check your edits) with older offline or you can generate own maps from raw OSM data
