App locks screen when swiping down

Jeff Mooallem shared this question 4 years ago

While using Locus, whenever I swipe down from the top (for OS notifications or to change OS settings), my screen locks and password or PIN is required. Fingerprint is not enough to unlock. "Device locked by admin".

No other app does this so there is something in the Locus settings that is causing it.

I have a Google Pixel 3 XL with Android 9.

What setting do I need to change?

Good day Jeff,

hard to say to be true. Give a try to app settings > Disable screen lock. If you set here "All screen lock", it may not work correctly on all devices, so try to disable this setting.

It is set to "System settings/No screen lock disabled"

I'm not sure what that means. It seems like a double negative.

What should I change this to?

Hello Jeff,

hmm then your settings are correct and the problem has to be in a different place.

One more idea: what about turning the screen on/off with a proximity sensor? Do you have enabled settings > Controlling > Display > Screen on/off control > "Control by gesture"?

Anyway, I never read about such problem with Locus Map and I work/develop also on Android 9. Isn't there an option that you use some kind of device-protection application that may do this?

Thank you for your efforts. I'm attaching the screenshot of that settings page. I don't see what is wrong.

This is the only app that behaves like this. It not only locks the screen when I swipe down but it locks by admin so fingerprint recognition does not work.

I don't think anything in the OS setting would do this. It must be something in this app

Good day Jeff,

I'm really worried that Locus Map does not have even permissions to affect locking mechanism. Really the only function that may affect this is "Screen on/off control" (visible on your screenshot). Seems you have enabled this function, but I do not know what settings are set inside. Open this setting please and check first selection called "Control by gesture". If it is enabled, it is most probably the source of problems, so disable it and give it a try.

I think you found the hidden trick. I disabled gestures and that fixed it! I don't know why it was enabled, perhaps it's default. I don't know why enabling it would have this strange side effect. But the problem went away.

Thank you!

Hello Jeff,

really interesting that this setting has such a weird side effect. Will have to look on this why it happens, thanks and I'm glad we had solved it.

Hello,

I can confirm this behavior, this happens also on my two devices.

It is a very helpful feature during my motorcycle navigation, so hopefully it can be fixed

in the near future...

Thanks...

I experienced this problem today. "device locked by admin" when I tried to turn on the display with the power button while Locus Map was navigating. I looked for gesture control, but it was already disabled. At home I tried to reproduce this, but I could not. I think it's because I had smart lock activated to keep unlocked at home. I have deactivated the smart lock and I can see the Locus Map navigation on the lock screen now. But I will have to go outside to test again to see if the smart lock causes the problem when away from home.

The other thing I thought about was whether there was some new policy enforced by Google Gsuite if I have my phone logged into a Gsuite account. But I don't know what kind of administration setting would do this, and it never happened before.
