Viewing Maps on Watch without Phone

My understanding (with Locus Map Pro) was that I would be able to view maps utilizing my Samsung Galaxy Watch 3's GPS, without having my phone nearby. Is that not the case? Must my phone ALWAYS be present to view maps on my watch?

I'm sorry, but unfortunately that's not possible.
Watch applications do not work without a phone.
They only display content from the phone, they don't work extra on their own, at least as far as maps are concerned.

You would need a phone that runs full android,
They could then run locus natively.
not running wear OS or tizen
The Locus smartwatch add simply sends the current map image across to the watch...
