Guidance On GPX Track Display Behavior Changes

Hello,

Got to use GPX track guidance mode recently (hiatus due to pandemic) and noticed a few mostly unwelcome changes which complicates usage.

1. The GPX track display is now removed. It used to be shown along with the guidance track. This might be o.k. if the guidance track was (more) configurable. Currently I have the GPX track style to show black direction arrows on a bright green background. This makes it easy to confirm directions at turns if you miss the audio or it gets drowned out by traffic noise.

The current guidance line style does show some very faint and hard to see arrows on the guidance track. This is unacceptable when cycling as you only have a glance at the display to make decisions upon.

2. The current guidance track also doesn't appear to be following the configured line style/color. I had mine configured for a green to blend in with the GPX track. Now it displays as a darker blue apparently ignoring the configured line color. This appears to be broken.

I guess that getting rid of the GPX track display during guidance would be acceptable but only if the the Guidance track display settings were just as configurable as the GPX track display. Right now it appears that you can (mostly) only set the track color but not the line style. The line style would need to be added (unless I am missing something).

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry but I can't simulate the issue, my GPX track style remains preserved during guidance:

Could you please send screenshots of your problem and also of your settings? Thanks.

Which settings page(s) do you need?

Locus settings > Guidance > Style on map

Here are the screenshots. You'll notice the original GPX track is gone and replaced by the guidance track which is the wrong color,

The track changes color only when it is clicked upon - it highlights, When the guidance is started, its original color is back. Just tap outside the highlighted track, its color changes back to riginal. See the video: https://asamm.myqnapcloud.com/share.cgi?ssid=0nyjE9b

Michal,

Sorry, that is not working here. Selecting the track by taping it highlights it by turning it pink. Use ">" to select guidance. Track turns blue, original track disappears. Tapping elsewhere on the map has NO effect on the track style. Original track line is GONE and guidance track REMAINS blue.

Further ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve, well, I managed to simulate the issue but only on the Android emulator (not on my phone) and only on recorded tracks (not on planned routes). Consulting with the developer so please stay tuned.

Michal,

Here is the track file used and it was generated with RWGPS. I don't know if this would be considered a "recorded track". I am also using OpenAndro maps if that is a factor.

Hi Steve, what style settings do you use for the track? Could you post a screenshot?

Bingo! Locus appears to be using the default track style which happens to be the SAME as the guidance line style INSTEAD of the line style set by the track FOLDER. I don't think that this is the intended behavior. The screen shots should make this clear.

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks, could you please open the detail settings of the folder "Bike routes"? We need to check if you use some dynamic line coloring like e.g. by speed, elevation, slope angle etc...

I don't use these settings. I also don't know where to find them to check. All I see is "General Settings", "Simple". and "Complex" whatever that is?

When you tap the line sample, the line style settings open. You obviously use it because the arrowed bright green line is not a default style.

Here is what I get when tapping the line style...

Thanks! We're still working on simulating the issue properly. Nobody else has reported it yet.

Michal,

Any luck getting this issue resolved or in an update?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

unfortunately, no luck with the simulation. Noone else has reported it. As we can't simulate the issue properly, we have to keep it on standby until we have more information on how to replicate it and find the cause.

You always write to simulate it. Then call up with a program information while the error occurs? If so, you could access the user's phone about foreign maintenance tool? Of course, the user has to allow that and you have to use the effort.

I thought that I figured it out in the post above several weeks ago...

BTW, this was on an imported GPX track if that matters.

Is this not enough to reproduce the issue?

Hi Steve, unfortunately, this is not enough. The successful simulation must include several devices behaving the same way after the same set of actions. This is not happening, I only simulated it on an emulator running Android 7, the main developer didn't simulate it at all. Noone else has reported it so I'm sorry, this has to be put on standby now until we have more feedback of this kind.
