Preset based on other preset

Hi,

it would be very useful if every preset could have a picker "Based on preset".

So it first applies all settings of the preset which it is based on, and then applies its own settings.

I have a few comprehensive presets which do a lot. Basically distinguised between "planning" and "out in the wild". And there's some presets with just a few changes to planning. They do different hill shading and themes. To be perfect they would have to be based on the planning preset.

Wish you success with lm4 and best regards,

Michael

Yes that would be great. I also make presets with small differences. But every time I have to redefine everything.

Would simply having the ability to duplicate a preset help?

that's what is meant by it. At least that's how I understood it.

No, does not. With the topics idea and a big preset a which inherits to b:

Just make changes to a when necessary and you are well.

Preset duplication means quite some manual work. Remove unwanted settings, change it's name and symbol etc.

Menion just needs to take care of the user not creating endless loops, but as a dev he instantly sees this.

Tapio

So you mean like a sub preset

As in Run Primary preset, and then run secondary preset which has a few additional settings

@Alistair: Yes. That would be glorious 😁

That's what I tried to say with "So it first applies all settings of the preset which it is based on, and then applies its own settings."

But that's the same as creating a copy. I make a copy ... Thus, the appliance is based on the scope. Now I do additional changes and save.

But if you make changes to the primary preset, you have to make all the same changes in the duplicates as well.

@tobse. No it is not. The usability part is, you would just have to make the changes in the upper hierarchy preset.

As it is now, you have to do the differing changes one by one in "lower hierarchy presets". And first need to find them.

I might be wrong here but doesnt a preset only change the settings mentioned

so to have a primary preset followed by secondary

just run the primart one first then the second one

multiple presets can be activated using tasker

Yes, Tasker possible, but bad usability inside Locus UI because you have to re-enter presets after the first one.

you can use tasker to run primary preset, wait then run secondary

you can use quick bookmarks to launch tasker tasks...

So if a preset could be duplicated would this fix it?

What is the bad usability? if tasker tasks could be added to the menu would that improve it.

Linking a preset to be based on another one is a good foundation and as for usability, as I said. Tap preset one. Locus leaves the preset screen. Visit screen again. Tap second preset. Not perfect.

Sir in my suggestions I am not asking for easy workarounds (not easy for others, the ones who do not use Tasker). I aim to support Locus with (subjectively) useful ideas.

If Locus had no recording button but recording could only be achieved by intent/Tasker, I'd ask for a recording button, even if there was a workround.

So you arent asking for a solution for yourself with your presets, but an idea for other users

It does seem very specific and not a lot if users would need, but im voting anyway...
