Location of Geocaching pictures in LM4

Hi,

the UI has changed in v4 to a great look. Unfortunately it's effortful to navigate through the ui to the location of the pictures.

How about to place the pictures near the waypoints, trackables, logs also with a little counter and the ">" sign to access them? See attached screenshot.

Thanks Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,

thanks for the idea. This reminds me of what I wanted to with "offlinized" images. Did you tried to add to any point/cache your own image? There is a new gallery view right before the point title. What about simply displaying these offlinized images directly in the point gallery?

Is it a bad idea? Opinions of more people playing geocaching is welcome here!

Hi Menion,

the new gallery is great and I didn't mention it yet. LM4 has so much great features :)

Currently I have no real opinion what would be the best placement for the pics. The idea to handle them like the waypoints is, that I'd like to quickly see if there are images or not for the cache available.

If there are Spoiler pics, maybe it's not so good to show them by default with the gallery. So maybe this is a reason against the gallery idea.

+1 from me

Sounds like a good idea, one could easily see all available images.

Q: What about image captions in this case? Often this is important information and is currently available in the Image view.

As mentioned above - Spoiler pics may be an example to not show them by default and this could be the showstopper for the gallery idea.

I'm well aware of spoilers. They need to be excluded of course.

Currently, app generate (GC offlinizer) an HTML web page that is displayed in own screen. With this change it should be necessary to split this page and display as separate images. Little more complicated, but doable.

Ok, this is one alternative. The second is as Wolfgang mentioned, to add these "images" directly into UI. Is this really useful?

Any other alternative? Like optional button to the bottom panel? Or the "images" button in the app listing? Hmm ...

I just thought this is what your thought Menion.

For me the same indicator like the waypoints (see initial screenshot) is fine for me. I only need to know that there are pictures (incl. Spoilers) how I may access them it's not so important for me.

Ok in other words. When I see an indicator of the main cache site that there are images I am happy 😊

Button images is good. Pictures in the cache screen would be too small to recognize what. When opening an image may be an arrow to go to the next picture.

Yeah - that would certainly be a good solution!

Important to me:

  • Zoomable image by pinch
  • Log images available in context of log (so you know which log the image comes from).
  • Image captions, as mentioned above.

(I'm not familiar yet with how LM4 handles these.)

Oh, a long-standing bug: Images below a log are in reverse order, compare with web page. (I post images in a specific order to tell a story.)

I was just looking for the cache images and I cannot find them at all. Where can I find them?

Hi guys,

I'm still not sure how to deal with images on the new LM4 screen. So for now, downloaded/offlinized images remain in the top-right geocaching menu. It is a verified system used in LM3 as well.

Also the app should use offlinized images when displaying basic listing, so generally, special pages with images are not needed at all.

I just looked into one cache where important information is part of the cache images, but the images are not linked from the listing. Where can I find this images now? In LM 3 there was the images tab.

As menion wrote

open listing > click top right button > scroll down > Photos

have you run GC offlinizer before??

Thank you, I found it.

No, I did not run GC offlinizer in LM4.
